These are great acoustical wedding songs. I played "There is Love" at my sister's wedding, "I Will Be Here" at a good friends wedding, and will be doing Bryan Adam's "I'll Always be Right There" Aug 6th at my daughter's wedding.
All great songs!
Norse(I suggest a six [classical if you have it] for the Bryan Adam's song, and a 12 string for the other two...fun songs to play as well!)man1 |

You could try "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis. Especially effective on ukulele (hey, it got me laid on my anniversary)!

All the federales say

Only let him slip away
Out of kindness I suppose
I love the song, but I expect that the mother of the bride would never forgive you. |

"I will be here" is great. "There is Love may have been overdone. Try something by KISS! |

It's an unwritten rule that when you play at a wedding you have make it sound like you're a regular at the Rainbow Room of the Holiday Inn Express ...
Enjoy and have fun!
Here are some songs that have not been mentioned:
Long and Winding Road
A bootle of red - joel
it's raining men
ymca
locomotion
electric slide
roll out the barrel
Hokey Pokey
My god it's just horrible but the people seem to enjoy them.
And remember you and your band are not the stars. And don't let family members sing, anyone who does forgets that today they are not the center of attention. Even if they have a good voice ... Stop them! The thoughtful members of the wedding party will thank you. |

(maybe not)
Perhaps:
"I Need You" • America
"Longer" • Dan Fogelberg
Actually, many times I've gotten the request to play at the weddings of friends. Most every time that I had the freedom to choose the song, I ended up with a last minute inspiration for an original song! Each one was VERY well received, and songs are actually among the strongest songs I've written (most written on the fly the night before!). I often still occassionally squeeze one or two in at gigs.
If you have the courage and some writing ability, I'd say give it a shot. That way your performance becomes a personalized gift as well as entertainment. Some of the couples danced alone on the floor as I played, and it was something they seem to specifically remember about that day.

I really like a song by Joshua Kadison that I forgot the name of, but it's written for piano. I did Beautiful by Gordon Lightfoot at ours, along with the Wedding Song, but that was a long time ago.
Whatever you do, use it as an excuse to get a new guitar. |

Words to live by. She wants a new patio cover, use it as an excuse to get a new guitar. She wants granite counter tops, use it as an excuse to get a new guitar. She doesn't want sex, use it as an excuse to get a new guitar.
Repeat as needed. |

This thread reminded me of one of our wonderful trips together, driving from Idaho to Salina, Kansas in a Ford Fiesta for my wife's sister's wedding. I was still trying to learn the Wedding Song on my 76 Ovation while my wife drove. Not much room in a Fiesta even if you aren't trying to play a guitar. I think that's the same trip we lost a fan belt and I got the verses mixed up on the Wedding Song. The sheet music is really hard to follow.
Wonderful memories. That wedding just led to divorce, like most of them. I doubt there's any correlation between the quality of the wedding music and the quality of the marriage, so just throw something together. |

Put another log on the fire,
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
Go out to the car, jack it up and change the tire.
Mend my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, babe!
You can fill my pipe, and then go fetch my slippers.
Boil me up another pot of tea.
Put another log on the fire, babe,
Then come tell me why you're leaving me.

You won't be able to stop everyone from singing on the chorus to that one (kinda like "You Picked a Fine Time To Leave Me, Lucille"...oh well...).
Or you could do SOMETHING serious...
...like "Something" by George Harrison... |
