One word : WOW

Anyone who doesn't believe a yuke is a real instrument needs to watch that guy in action. WOW! Anyone know the type of uke?? That guy was just awesome. |

Just wanted to chip in, and sing the praises of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, who don't even try to give the Uke any credibility, but still put on a great show.
My personal favorite from their show the other night was "Teenage Kicks"... A close second was some random song where 5 of them (yes 5) were playing one Uke altogether.
Not an O in sight (excepting my Deacon as I was in the band playing support), but a top concert nonetheless.
Uke's are the new cool. Don't fight it, it'll be easier that way...

Location: Tampa, FL | A fellow player in an ensemble I play with is a trained classical guitar musician. I've seen him do similar type of things that just stop me in mid-strum (flailing on a money-fret C). Thought my 6591 was broke till I asked him to try it, suddenly it was fixed. I considered giving it to him of of mercy for my poor guitar. But I'm much too cruel for that.
The uke guy is very impressive. Wish I could make four strings sound that good. Thinking of taking up something more my speed If you go here, check out Scott's July 26, 2003 performance and forward to time mark 41:40. Not sure I could even make one string sound that good. |

Give yourself some time...you'll need to play it more than once.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Hey, this video isn't just some dude in NYC hanging out in the park and decided to turn on his camcorder while he stummed a bit. I did a little research. This is Jake Shimabukuro. He's got a couple DVDs and a bunch of CDs. Has won all kinds of awards in Hawaii and Japan for uke playing. Now I don't feel so bad anymore. I actually thought he was just like one of us. No way. My entire guitar collection is no longer for sale.
