Location: Avondale AZ | There is something about driving the open road that makes rock and roll more exciting. The following is my list of songs that are my favorite to listen to while traveling in my fast car. They are all equally exciting and in no order of preferance. Note none of these have a banjo in them.
Driver's Seat by Sniff 'N' the Tears
The Cowboy Song by Thin Lizzy
Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple
Free Bird by Lynard Skynard
Radar Love by Golden Earring
What is your list?

But I would really only drive to these if I have a sudden urge to uncontrollably raise my heart rate, adrenaline and my car insurance rates. Otherwise, I tend to stick to driving to more peaceful tunage and appreciate the journey a lil more.
Gettin' older, I s'pose. |

Nine inch nails does a cover of Radar Love?
I did not know that. I interested hearing it.

Good call with the Outlaws and Blackfoot. These were two bands that never got their dues along with Uriah Heep. In fact add their song 'Easy Living' to the list. |

| Mr Cheese - having played bottom of the bill to Nazareth a couple of times more years ago than I care to remember, may I be allowed to tell you that those guys were crap beyond almost any meaning of the word?
Nobody mentioned Canned Heat or Free/Bad Company. Bob Seeger made some great driving music. And BB King. |

Giant???? Damn...I didn't know anyone else knew who they were! Dan Huff is quite a player and singer...too bad after playing on so many other people's rock albums, his own band didn't make the cut. Bad timing I guess.
Now he's carved himself a niche in country music as a player and growing ever more popular as a producer with some big name artists.
Interesting choice...great song. I haven't heard it in a long time. I'll have to dig out that cd now. |

Dude looks like a lady by Areosmith
I'm a man by Chicago or Dave Mason or whoever does it.
Something about those 2 titles together. |

Mock Tudor- Richard Thompson
The Feelies- The Feelies
The American in Me- Steve Forbert
Skip, Hop and Wooble (maybe the best instrumental album EVVVERRRR-R. Barenburg, E. Meyer. J.Douglas

I tend to think of albums for road trip music ... some favorites include:
Bat Out of Hell -- MeatLoaf (and the genius of Todd Rundgren)
Scarecrow -- John Mellencamp
Hot Rocks -- The Stones
Soundtrack from Five Summer Stories -- Honk
Hank Wilson's Back -- Leon Russell
London Calling -- The Clash
(I have a six disc changer. ;) ) |

Location: Houston, TX | I'm not a Stones fan - but Can't you hear me knockin is a great tune. The break reminds of the break in Loggins and Messina Angry Eyes.
My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Maui in April - I love the place, but after about 5 days of nothin but uke, we planned to be in the car all day going down the road to Hana and beyond - off the beaten path. We stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up a live REO Speedwagon CD and it was absolutely glorious to blast Ridin the Storm Out and Roll With the Changes while we were cuttin through the countryside in a convertible.
Aja is a good call - Kid Charlamagne is one of my favorite Steely Dan tunes. Is there gas in the car, yes there's gas in the car...made you feel like jesus...did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes...maybe the most subtle and yet accurate snapshot dealer song.
I'm not a Deadhead, but American Beauty got me from Houston to San Antonio a couple of times - Box of Rain, Sugar Magnolia...
Freddy King - Goin Down - always makes me stomp on the accelerator. With my big feet out the window... |
