Location: Toronto | I was hoping someone might be able to help me out here. I have an Applause mando that I was tinkering with on the weekend - when the damn nut broke. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement locally or even online, so if anyone has any ideas where I can order a couple I would be grateful!
By the way - just a few more hours before I get to tinker with my new (T28's old) 5858 :D

Location: Toronto | Thanks Bill - I sent them an email, generally they send me to a local Long & McQuades. I already checked with them and they weren't too interested in ordering me a couple of nuts (jeez, this sounds bad even typing it!)...

Congratulations.
Now be careful with your new nut. |

For what it's worth they indeed sent me 2 nuts (US and Import) - one nut fit like a charm and now - I have an extra nut - just in case anyone needs one and a noise making 8 stringer! |

How do you tune a mandocello to turn it into an octave mandolin? Do you have to go with lighter strings? |

Us bluegrass mandolin players have never recognized a mandocello as being part of decent society.

Are there any artists or recordings out there that feature the Mandocello? |

Note that a mandocello has the same relationship to a mandolin as a bass to a guitar. Also, there have been some recent country hits where a mandocello is featured, due to old age I can't remember their titles, only that I have seen them on CMT.
Yes, playing a mandocello at a bluegrass jam would certainly be "low key", if you could take a round of "Rawhide" in a lower octave you could be certain of a standing Ovation followed by a sitting difficulty because of the boot insertions by Bill Monroe fanatics who seem to always show up in REALLY pointy cowboy boots.
How in hell did a bunch of Kentucky backwoods fans end up in cowboy boots?? I seen that Kentucky country in the 50's and they was wearing Tom McCann work shoes, but what do I know, I was a fan long before those California cowboys when my brother and I roamed the Wheeling, WVA hills. |
