| Why would a company like Kaman Music let a hack bass (Nikki Sixx) player in one of their ads, let alone let him design a Bass guitar?
Kaman Music, always bottom feeding. No pun intended...
I guess when your career is 20+ years over the only company that will give you any digs in Ovation and Kaman Music., Why... they're cheap and not hip any more.
Sorry Charlie, but the bean counters just knocked your vision down another notch by cutting corners on good ad work and finding up and coming artists that kids today actually care about... what does this ad do for Ovation/ Kaman? |

As far as I'm concerned as long as Ovation makes print I'm happy they are getting exposure. attacking The company because you disagree with them does'nt help or solve anything. |

Tommy Lee's Back To School reality show is set to begin and Vince Neil seems to have never left the public eye whether it's for whining about having no career anymore, punching somebody out for no reason or MTV's reality show. And now they're back on tour. A shameless scream for attention? Absolutely but no matter how you look at it - they're back in a big way.
For Kaman to take advantage of that by buying Sixx (cheap) is a stroke of brilliance in my opinion. The Crue definitely has an audience again so why shuldn't Kaman jump on?
Oh, yeah, and good to have you here too. I've noticed a huge shortage of uninformed and misguided foolishness lately. |

How about a Britney Spears signature model. They can make it look pretty and sound like crap. |

I think my oldest may be getting over Korn and Slipknot. The last time I listened to her music was when I had to move her car and couldn't figure out how to shut off the CD player, where some guy just kept shouting "Star F--kers" at me. I asked her if her boyfriend was going to play that for her at her wedding like I played "Wedding Song" and "Beautiful" for her mom at ours.
I know. When I was a kid I listened to some trash, too. Fortunately, Ovation picked people like Jim Croce then. |

But then again, if you were you'd know that the Beaners (that's slang for accountants, not to be confused with a racial slur) don't call these shots, it's the marketing people. Not that I have an opinion on them but I think perhaps you're being a little generous?
On the factual side I think Nikki has played Hamers for 10-15 years so this isn't new. As far as running an ad with him instead of somebody new, up and coming, etc.... well that's all marketing and on that note,

What I am saying is that the Crue does have an undeniable audience and Kaman is reaching that audience through Sixx regardless. If Kaman can reach an audience that is that big and do it at a reasonable cost, why wouldn't they? |

I was being sarcastic in print again, even though I know it doesn't come across well. What I really wanted to respond to was Mr. "...sucksass" comment about paying attention to what the kids today really care about. Now, that's important. Body piercing and tattoos. Maybe all O's should come tatooed with nose rings.
I didn't know who Niki Sixx was when I saw the ad and didn't care when I found out. If he was from a different era, I'm glad I missed it. |

| I was utterly disgusted the first time I clicked on the web page and found Nikki Sixxxxx staring back at me.
Slight over reaction though, don't you think?
And they are making a big deal out of Kaki.
Over here they put WAY more effort and serious competitive pricing into Takamine. It's been mention before (by me, many times) that you guys would not believe what they charge for US Ovations here and there isn't a single full range dealer. And now they've got a distributor (different from the guitar distributor) for Genz Benz I emailed them about an amp, they told me they didn't have one, didn't know if they were going to get one and offered me the one they do have for a higher number of pounds than you pay in dollars LIST in the states. Possibly they ship them over first class on the QEII, at least that would explain the price. All in all I think the marketing (as opposed to the products) sucks.
Anyway, welcome to the board sucksass, can't wait for your next post. |

I don't have any desire to listen to Niki, but Kaki seems to have a ton of talent. I don't know that she made me want to buy another Ovation, but I sure was inspired to practice on the ones I have. |

Location: N.J. | Hi all. I know this is my first post but I have been a looong time lurker here and I really feel I needed to respond to the whole "artist endorsement" thing  . I can remember years ago picking a Hit Parader or Circus magazine and reading the polls about who is the "best" for guitar,vox,etc.. and always finding it ridiculous. HOWEVER,I would go down to the local mom and pop store and see all the guys picking up all these instruments just because the Hit Parader guys played them so they MUST be good! I cant tell you how many errr, debates, I had about Wasburn vs. an old Fender or Gibson :D . I guess my point is I'm glad Nikki is getting out the Ovation name and not someone else. There will always be some kid who pick one up because of that and thats like discovering plutonium by accident ;) ! Doesnt really matter who the player is as much as the sound and the quality of the instrument. :p . If your playing in front of hundreds of thousands of people {as he currently is},thats great exposure for a whole new generation of "O" players. |

Location: Paris/France | As you already know, my English is not so good as your.
That's why I bought 2 month ago a new French/English dictionary. A big one. More than 1300 pages and 1.5kg!! I thought that I've made a good deal but I'm not sure today!! "Kamansuckass" is not inside... It's a steal!!!
I've finally understood that it's surely a name composed with several words. So I've looked one more time in my big and heavy dictionary.
- Kaman: Not inside but I can suppose that It's the genius who have reinvented the guitars during the 40 last years isn't it???
- Suck: It's written "sucer", "pomper", "aspirer" so I can also understand this word.
- Ass: my dictionary says: "Idiot" ou "Ane". Too easy for me...
But It still difficult for me to understand these 3 words together. I've told to me: "Jérôme, this guy is surely a poet and his name should be very fresh..." ;)
I'm so happy to see that you have also some poets in USA!!!
In France, we had a nice band doing "rap music" (the favorite music to my ears... )and who's called: "Nique ta mère"...(N.T.M). Something like:"F... your mother". Very poetic for a band name???
It seems to be the same poetry as our new member K.S.A!!!
If you want to change your name in the next future, I've got some french proposition for you: "Têtedecon" ou "Crétindesalpes". Very poetic and fresh too...You can trust in me. :D
Welcome aboard K.S.A!!! |

I find more fun in watching all of us "drift" off- topic.
I have no idea what this guy's point is. I don't think we would drift so far as to comment on Kaman's marketing strategies - unless, of course, we saw something we liked. |

After the second album they sold out and have been horrible and only gotten worse ever since. They have been horrible for almost twenty years now. I can’t stand them. I too was irritated at having that hack Six in the ad….”A legend among bassists!” I think when they broke, the producers didn’t even want him on the albums because he could hardly play. Thus Six to me is an insult to Ovation and that kind of pisses me off as an Ovation fan. Anyway, the ad has always bugged the hell out of me. |
