The current thread about Nikki Sixx endorsing Ovations got me thinking, which gives me a headache, so I ask...

Are you a musical snob?

I think I'm considered a musical snob because of what I like, not what I don't like. It's not that the other stuff is bad, it's just that what I listen to is sooooo much better. ;)

"All music is enjoyable to somebody".
With that statement, I had to go with #1. I may not understand or like rap, but someone out there sure does.

A musical snob, I am.

I can respect most kinds of music except: emo, punk, and rap

I had problems with this one because I don't consider rap to be music. Therefore I couldn't consider it in the category of music that sucks.

1. Rap isn't music. Besides the C is silent
2. All music appeals to somebody. While true there still is good and bad and sometimes bad is bad.

Music is entertainment, it's purpose is to make people feel something, happy/sad whatever. All music is enjoyable to somebody.

I voted as a musical snob, sarcastically.

music is alot like language...you speak it or you don't.

If rap isn't music, and I agree it isn't then I like most every kind. I even started to like some country after they took the twang out of it.

I don't think I'm a snob, just an old fart! It's part of the old fart job description that you're not allowed to relate to any music that's been produced within the last 20 years.

Hhhhmmm,
This one was kind of tricky believe it or not. I had to go with #1 because even though I agree with the last statement its only my opinion based on my personal taste. Who am I to knock someone else for listening to something that I hate when they could be saying the same thing about what I listen to. Just dont push yer rap on me buddy! ;) I keed of course.

It's simple:

Good Music.....Jim Croce

Bad Music.......Someone struggling to learn to play Jim Croce correctly (like me)

Rap...............Someone who would pop a cap in Jim Croce's dead body for his bling bling.

Just as we (Americans) will hold a World championship event and forget to invite other Countries - We are snobs.

As evidence I submit that most of the World loves Polka, David Hasselhoff, Celebrity Mandolins and Football (Soccer).

I used to be a snob, what's weird is as I get older, I'll listen to anything to check it out. OK, some of it I don't like. But I think most (still have trouble saying all) music has some value.

My Dad used to play Classical Viola, Violin and Cello and taught chorus in public schools for 25 years. When I was growing up, he always told me Rock and Roll was not music, just noise. I would try to get him to listen to stuff I liked, but he was never able to approach it with an open enough mind to listen.

What makes bad music bad? Lack of substance, lack of musicianship, bad message?

I'd say Lack of substance and musicianship.

It always bothers me that I'm way better at guitar than tons of new bands that are making a a buttload of money.

Lack of substance means a lot of bands these days I just hear whining about their lives. Nothing really innovative...

Lack of musicians!

Question:
How much of the output can be computer generated before it stops being music?

"There are only two kinds of music. Good music and bad music." Duke Ellington.

So I voted #3.
