I am a 53 year old guy that has been playing for almost 2 years. Are these things geared more for the younger crowd? I don't know many guitar players so I thought this might be a way to meet others that play so we could hook up through the winter and play and learn togather. |

Just think about all the things you could learn from other people?
"geared to the young"????? Yeah...If the likes of the "older" talent that I saw on the Tour show up, the "young" would definatly be at a disadvantage!!!
But seriously....I don't think age would really matter. |

Location: Cicero, NY | I know I've mentioned this once or twice before but I belong in a "Guitar League" that is a psuedo-once a month camp. I get together with about 35 other players of all ages and levels, we spend an hour or so with one of us highlighting a specialty (setup, recording, different styles (jazz, finger style, blues, etc), then break into groups to get more into detail on playing and practicing. You pick the level you want to be in as well according to your comfort. It's really pretty cool.
Their goal is to have others open up similar clubs around the country and, if you belong to one but are traveling, you just catch one where you are. Kind of a Guitar Players Anonymous, I guess. It's not helping with my on-going GAS but otherwise I'm having a ball with it. |

It would be cool to be able to jump in when you're on the road. |

Location: Cicero, NY | Go to http://www.guitarleague.com/ and click on the "leagues" link on the left for branch details. And the only connection I have is as a member and player. It's not my franchise but check it out. I can say that the guys I've ben playing with are a fun bunch and I'm learning a lot. Check out the site and, if you have questions, shoot me an email. Imagine the fun of a league tour?

Location: 6 String Ranch | There are lots of camps/schools out there. www.webnash.com is a good one as is the National Guitar workshop going on right now. Jorma K has the Fur Piece Ranch out in Indiana and there are a bunch more. These are great and very often aimed at us older "teenagers" who want to finallllly learn how to play. |

Location: Cicero, NY | No, you didn't miss them, the one I'm in is the only one so far and this one is only about five months old. I think the guys that opened it up are in the initial stages of the game and they're trying to get the ball rolling and they're doing a pretty good job of it but, no question, it's in it's infancy. As Bill mentioned, camps and schools are all over the place and this is really just another player in the game.
I'm sure everyone has their comfort level in ability and cash outlay as well as having some thoughts on where they want to be and I think you try to find the camp/school/league that will get you there. For me? I want to learn a little more about everything, get off my backyard deck and play in front of people a little more than I do now. No tours planned but it would be fun to do what Brian T and Slipkid pull off occaasionally at the local coffeehouse. This club gets me a little more ability, knowledge, confidence and a whole bunch of new guitar buddies - all for $25 a year. In my book, you can't beat that. I'm just not too sure I could sit down with Jorma for a lesson without getting weakkneed and goofy about it.
I can only imagine it would be a bit of an effort to get a branch off the ground but there are three others who have come to our league who want to start their own in Ithaca, Rochester and Utica. So the interest is there. You'd be surprised how many guitar players out there would show up when you say it's a freebie to start - just bring your box and be ready to play. We'll see where it goes and , if it doesn't? I'm still happy with what I'm getting.
Low expectations are very underrated in my book. |

I though it would be great for adults to have these too. Why should the kids have all the fun? :) |

Location: NJ | I was thinking that the OFC day can kind of morph into something like this. With factory tour in the am and maybe some guitar workshops in the am for those who where already at the factory. Lunch and then the afternoon session.
But what the hell do I know? I am just an idiot that sells gear for a living. |

Location: NJ | I like that idea, Al.
On the last Tour PaulM, PaulT and I kinda' "blew off" the afternoon HamerTour (we'd all "seen it" - twice, and it made for a smaller crowd for Jol to have to contend with) and hung out up in R&D with Bill & Darren discussing guitars and trading licks.
Maybe we can arrange something like that in a separate area somewhere??
I think that it SHOULD be a requirement though that "FirstTimers" to the Tour DO take both tours . . . . |

Location: NJ | The only problem I forsee is that the tour changes every time I see it and believe me I CAN GIVE THAT TOUR!!!!!! I spend so much time at the factory that people kid me that I should draw a salary.
Part of the factory involvement are the tours and I don't want to deminish that in any way. BTW I may as well say this now. I found people that went to the Ovation tour only and blew off the Hamer tour offensive. It is like being invited for dinner at a friends and skipping off on dessert to watch tv. |

I would definitely have to agree with Al that the tours should remain the focus but expanding the weekend to include some additional "workshops" given by members would probably be very cool (IMHO). Ended, of course, by the Llamapalooza Jam. |
