Question for Mac users -

What's a good general purpose audio file format converter? Convert to/from all different formats of wav, mp3, wma, M4A, M4B, aiff, etc. batch process not necessary, just individual files.

Thanks in advance.

You can use iTunes to do the wav mp3 stuff. The mp4 won't convert on iTunes unless you tell it to import as mp3.

I have used Switch Sound on my pc with good results. They have a mac version that I've downloaded but not used yet.

If you're asking for a technical review of quality, I have no idea which apps make better or worse quality conversions.

I use dbpoweramp which is a great program but I just checked and unfortunately at this time it is Windows only.

I like WavPad . There are lots of others... the place to find any software, freeware and shareware for mac is versiontracker .

And I've done some audio file converts using imovie.

Dave, AudialHub from Techspansion was a great app but development for it has been discontinued. Not even sure you could get it up and running from scratch now, without license keys, but you may want to dig around a bit.

You might want to look at Audacity for a general audio tool. It runs on Macs, Windows, and Linux.

Strictly for converting files, I'd look at XLD here (I had to right-click and click Download Linked File to get the gui version downloaded.

There's another one called Max that I've heard good things about... more capabilities, but also more complicated to use.

Let us know what you end up with.
