Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | I have a subsciption to GUTAIRIST magazine out of the UK and this month's issue came with the GEAR magazine inside.
Interesting stuff.
Has the Mustaine Article with a picture of a 1773-4.
Has a review of a Applause AE127-4 and shows pics of about 8 different models/colors. (and they mention they would like to hear Ovation's clinician Matt Smith play some good bluegrass on one of them)
Has a 2 page review with big pics of the Ovation Special Balladeer AX (Model S771AX-AB)which receives a glowing review.
Back inside cover is the now famous Nikki Sixx ad with his ovation bass.
Overall a hell of an issue for Ovation in the UK! |

Therefore you always find lots of info on O's, always positive I'm afraid which is great for O fans but more subjectivity is always welcome. Still it is a useful publication to get to hear about up to date information.
It's great to see that Guitarist magazine makes it iover the pond. It's by far my favourite...a great publication.
Cheers

PS - But if they sign on Charles Manson, Osama Bin Laden, Satan, or Hillery Clinton I'm going to have to put change my opinion. Well, maybe Satan would be OK. |

I did a little browzing on Mustaine. Seems he's pretty popular with the black finger-nail polish crowd. Their disposable income is as good as anyone else's. Let's push the Ovation sales!
Dave
PS - I take back that comment about Hillery. One should never mix politics with marketing. |

I know you said you didn't care, but more knowledge is better!
Mustaine was the lead guitarist of a hair-metal band back in the 80's called Megadeth. |

By the way, in Phoenix they opened a new freeway call the SAN TAN freeway. Of course the first thing that happened was that the kids removed the first "n" from the signs.

When I think of great acoustic music,I think Megadeth!
It is always nice to see some one cool playing an O'
But i still think Dave M.Is a Pr!ck.
He sued his long time bandmate Dave Ellefson for using the Megadeth name in an equipment ad!
Come on,the guy was in the band for almost 20 years! |

I am sure there are others that have something you can say about them in the artist roster.
As for Dave being a Prick well he also says he is a Christian.
If we dig hard enough we can find faults with everyone...even me...but maybe you don't have to dig that deep!!! |

Point taken but it might be just a little harsh comparing someone's sexual preferences to convicts and drug abusers, no? And, to weigh in on Mustaine, I agree the guy is a supreme jerk but he is a hell of a guitar player with a massive following so I would say the same thing I said with Sixx - it's probably a good buy for the company to get him. Obviously they're going for exposure to the younger metal or somewhat metal head demographic. Just hope it works. |

First metal head I saw using one of these was Dimebag. |

Flash to the OFC, circa 2017, Member number 21665writes the following polls:
"Do you get feedback problems from your piercings?"
"Who has an Ovation Tattoo, and where?"
Questions like:
"Can I exchange an OP Pro7 for the Moody Acoustic III?"
Statements like:
"You are such a Temp, just Cliff out dude!"
You gotta be there... |

I wouldn't consider myself a Megadeth fan in any sense, but do like a few songs. They were often in magazines I'd read. From what I do know, Megadeth wasn't even close to a hair band, or had anything to do with finger nail polish. They and Metallica openly despised the whole 80's glam-hair thing. My guess is Dave probably even dislikes being an associated with the same company as Nikki.
I know Dave has had some serious struggles emotionally with being in the shadows of the success of his former bandmates (Metallica) and had a serious drug problem along with it. Such is life-he dealt with it how he did. Perhaps he is a dick, I don't know.
I heard he had some recent serious health issues with his hands, and has rehabilitated himself and is making a comback. He seems to have some new endorsements with other guitar companies as well. I know he is one helluvah rhythm player for that style of music, and I admire his determination to keep his career going. I wish him the best, though it's unlikely I'd buy his cds.
Personally, I don't care what musicians Ovation endorses-but it seems to be a recurring issue here. I play their guitars because I love 'em and they play and sound extremely well. I was originally inspired to play Ovations because I liked Melissa Etheridge's sound and guitars, but if she switched to another brand (highly unlikely) I wouldn't care, I love my instruments.
Of course, I sincerely want the Ovation company to do well...and their marketing people seem to be doing what they think is best. There are an abundance of styles of players from all genres...why the need to get defensive about who graces the magazine with an Ovation, much less with such a personal attachment to it? Sure, it would be great if it was some high profile, outstanding player with great morals and the perfect political perspective, but frankly...that wouldn't make my day any better or worse. I'd be happy for Al, if that lead to more sales, but I wouldn't care if it was Steve Howe or Pee Wee Herman! I still love my Ovations, no more, no less. Please forgive my ignorance, but I just don't get upset about endorsement choices, I just love these guitars and enjoy playin' em. |

hmmmmmmm . . . . . get Marketing on the line(click).
f'Course you'd have to make it 3/4 size, so that it fits into those narrow movietheatre aisles . . . . |
