Location: Warren,Pa. | We're gearing up for our inner-city kids' outreach here. So the young couple who is leading music for the kids brought me their mando to lower the action/change the strings/make it easier to play. Well...not so easy. The rosewood bridge is held down by 2 screws through the top, and the bridge is cracking/pulling up/self-destructing everywhere between the screws. So...I know John and Kim's outgoing message states "If you need service on a non-US Ovation...please see your dealer." I read this to mean "go pound salt." I'm used to sending my guitars to the factory, and I wouldn't trust them to anyone else. What do I do with this mandolin? |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I guess I didn't make it clear...no warranty issues here. They bought it used, it's stamped USED. I'd just like to get it fixed for them. BTW...Al is my dealer of choice. |

Might ultimately be cheaper to replace it in kind versus paying for a repair. |

The repair you need done should not be too hard for most guitar repair techs as the bridge on a Celebrity mandolin is basically an acoustic guitar type bridge. should be some guitar repair persons around Warren somewhere, and they might be willing to help a good cause.

Location: Warren,Pa. | I know. I LOL at your response...and the others. I sent an email to Kim to see if he'll help me out. Fact is these folks paid about $250 for this a few years ago, and the cost of a cheap A/E mando from MF is probably less than that. So I don't know how this will turn out. I do know that when someone comes to me with an Ovation problem I can't help but think they came to a very well connected guy...it's a great feeling to be in this "inner circle". |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Stepping into a pro repair shop with a busted celeb mando is the first step down a very slippery slope. Trust me I have been there. There is not much a shop can do that'll cost you any less then the value of the instrument. My post about installing a tailpiece was NO joke. I would serious consider doing this and it'll cost you next to nothing. Dave |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I DO understand why the bridge failed...at least I've learned something. The area between the 2 screws is punched full of holes for the strings to pull through, and there really isn't much wood left to give it strength in that area. I guess you really have to be carefull about the blank you use to make a bridge for one of these little things. Ebony would be better. |
