Glen needs to do more to remind folks of what a world class player he is.

Thanks for the link - it's good to see he's out playing again. I picked up an anthology album of his stuff recently (3 CD's), but while it's pretty good, it's obviously a product of a 'knock-off" company; it would be nice to see a retrospective by someone who could dig out some real gems from ALL the groups/music Glen has played for/on.

For example, I've got an album he did with Tennessee Ernie Ford - Glen Picks, Ernie Sings, or something like that; it's great...just Glen playing guitar (some HUGE riffs and chord work) and Ernie singing, plus some upright bass on a few tunes - that's it, and it's great; plenty of room to hear what Glen can do (with an OVATION in his hands!). (BTW he's holding his O on the cover, and playing it on the back cover as they record, just sitting across from each other in the studio - relaxed and cool.)

This is the kind of stuff that doesn't find it's way onto these 'best of' albums/CD's. Glen also did a live double album around early 70's that I'd love to get my hands on - he does some great playing/picking on that, too, but it's hard to find, and doesn't show up on anthologies.

A NEW CD would also be nice...but I realize he doesn't NEED to do it (or maybe he does...).

;)

I've got videos of Glen thru the years. One that I was watching this last weekend was a show taped in Canada in the mid 80's called "In Session With.." (I think). In this one, he was in a studio setting with Leon Russell, and Glen, playing his Elite prototype, was HOT! You see why he was so in demand in the studio in the 60's.

I was listening to some surf music from the 60's this past weekend and perusing the liner notes. Turns out that a studio session player named Glen Campbell was a much sought after guitarist for a lot of these groups, including the Marketts.

Maybe that's why the Stratocaster is still around.

The old "In Session" shows that Paul refers to ran from about 1980 to the early '90's were great...just a couple of performers in a studio setting basically jamming with each other. These shows were only a half hour long but there was always two shows recorded with each set of performers.
Glen appeared twice...the two '84 shows with Leon and once again in '89 with Jimmy Webb for a two show set.

I heard somewhere that Glen was also a studio musician on The Champs recording of "Tequila".
Wonder what other sessions he can be heard on???

Don't know about Glen, but I do know that Dash Seals and Jim Croft were members of The Champs.

He's A Rebel by The Crystals(Darlene Love)
Several Of The Songs from The Monkees First two Lp's when Studio Musicians played the tracks.
the following is from a section of his bio,..
Seems he's played on...

"records by such artists as Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, Jan & Dean and the Righteous Brothers. In addition, Phil Spector and Jimmy Bowen used him for most of their projects, and the Beach Boys invited him to join their group in the mid-sixties. He toured with that legendary band for 18 months in 1964 and ‘65, until his own solo career took off."

If you hear any record from about 61 to 64 coming out of LA chances are Glen was in on that session.

I think Glen joined The Champs after "Tequila," but he did play on their recording of "Limbo Rock."

I still wish Mr. Campbell would record and release an all instrumental album; I remember when I was kid he played banjo and fiddle as well as guitar, etc...

That's right he often swithed off instruments on The goodtime hour show. Steve Martin was a writer on the show and occasionally he would be play Banjo with Glen, and John Hartford. Martin is quite a banjo Player in his own right.

Just one time and one time only would be cool.

I dig Steve Martin's banjo work also.

I have an old LP, "Glen Campbell and His Astounding 12 string Guitar". Lots of good stuff on it. Roy Clark played the Banjo on some of the cuts. I need to get it out and run it through my computer to CD. I used to be able to play note for note on some of the cuts. Not sure I could keep up anymore. :)

I saw him live about 5 years ago. I was front row center and could watch him real good. He makes it look so easy and best of all he looked like he was really having fun. Isn't that what it's all about?

Steve, I’m not affiliated with Glen or his company in any way. I just happen to have some old guitars and have contributed the guitar webpage to his site.

I too, would like to see a new instrumental album but I doubt it will ever happen.

Hey Wayne, just saw your post, well, let's pester somebody about it...maybe Ken at the website, or Mr. Campbell's agent, Mr. Schneider (if that's still his agent)...anyway, of all the guitarists it's still unusual not to have a Campbell instrumental album...ya know, some other stuff besides Classical gas and William tell...(I remember the great solos from the first live album and the solo from Macarthur Park, etc), so he's got to have a serious instrumental repetoire, stuff we've never heard before...

Steve,

I've been looking for that first live album: is it available anywhere, either vinyl or CD format (or even cassette - sorry, no 8 track player available)?

When I was a teenager, I used to babysit for some folks that had a great stereo, and I used to listen to their copy of that album, but never got my own...

Mike, Hypothetically you could probably get a certain member to make you an illegal copy of the illegal copy he got from yet another member. But you're still in the dog house for accusing said member that he couldn't tell steel string tuners from nylon string tuners. That could complicate the whole process. Just in case, why don't you email me your address and I'll see if I can arrange for some forgiveness. Dave

I remember the '69 LIVE at New Jersey concert came in LP and 8-track and later on in Cassette...An original studio copy in CD format would be worth it's weight in gold...I am assuming Capitol Records still has the masters, but it would take a miracle to get them to re-release that album in CD format...

It is amazing with all the reissued albums out there that the '69 Liive in NJ hasn't seen the digital treatment yet.

As Dave mentioned, there is a good unofficial cd version floating around that was digitally mastered from an original reel-to-reel format.

Hi Steve, shoot me your regular email and I'll see you get one.
We have a wild blueberry farm and harvest starts very soon...four to five weeks of very long days but I'll see that you get one either before, or after the craziness ends.

Yes...might have been reel to reel that I listened to it on as well...all these young Air Force officers had these incredible sound systems that always included a reel-to-reel machine (while I was listening to my albums on an old Sears turntable with the two speakers that sat next to it in a wire frame cabinet/shelf (being the son of a poor enlisted man)!
