Does anybody know exactly when the K-bar started showing up in Ovation guitars? I would've said early to mid 80s, because I used to have a 79 Legend, and currently own a Custom Legend from 81, both of which had/have traditional truss rods. However, I was in a local used guitar shop yesterday and they had a Legend in there with a K-Bar, yet the serial number suggested 1979 as the year of manufacture.

Did certain models get the K-bar treatment sooner than others?

The Adamas was the first to use it in 76 (the slotheads had the graphite strip). It went into the Ovation product line in 79-80.

If 79-80 is when the change took place, then why does my '81 CL have a truss rod? This is why I was wondering if perhaps the K-bar trickled into the line one or two models at a time, rather than across the board all at once. I'd say it's almost gotta be that, or it's another case of serial number inconsistancy. I'm by no means speaking matter of factly with that assesment, I'm just trying to reckon this out...

I believe that the Kbar came in over a period of time. As old inventory was used up, the newer methods were brought in. But I've seen in Kbar in 1979 instruments.

The 1980 Catalog shows, that in 1980 only three models had a k-bar: Balladeer, Custom Balladeer and Legend.
