If I buy a used LX does the lifetime warranty transfer to me or it ends as soon as there is a 2nd owner?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, original owner only. Not transferable.
Does anyone remember that thread where the guy tried to make a case for 2nd and 3rd owner full warrenty? It would be fun to read that again. It had to be well over a year ago.

There is someone selling his lx on ebay, saying

"Brand New Ovation LX with EQ+ Tuner and hard shell case locking pegs all gold engraving. Will send with all papers an warrenties,,paid 1200.00 Need to sell, LOW RESERVE YOU can`t beat deal!!!"

It is funny how a guitar can be brand new when he already bought the guitar? It can be almost new but not brand new

Unless it's you name on the original bill of sale....no warrenty.
You can still bid on it and maybe win, but just do so with with the knowledge that you will not get the factory warrenty no matter what the seller says.
It still might be a good deal.

I always thought the guitar warranty is a very strange and narrow path. For example, I buy a vcr that breaks after 2 months. I return the VCR and get another one or that one is repaired.
Now as far as guitars go, what is really covered by the warranty?

The electronics are not, cracks are not. So what does the warranty cover?

How about just changing it to "Original Owner?" That way you'd be covered by every warranty.

I asked the guy about the warranty and he replies: "Warrent has not been sent in "

If I fill it out will it work?

thanks

well, if not sold by an authorized dealer and you aren't the original owner...no warranty.

no problem, Ovation has a great customer service that will correct for very little any future problem.

More Ebay Spoof, the people that say those things about warranty cards "included" must live in another world...

The only businesses I can think of, where original owners are not asked, for original recepts, in their name from "Authorized, originating, dealer for no hassle returns or exchanges are Snap-On tools, Sears (Craftsmen), Homie Depo, and Lowes...(Surely more arounfd this big country of ours...)

Mercury Outboard Warranties ARE transferrable... to the next owner for the duration of the original owners warranrty period... even including extended warranties...

So until Homie Depo starts selling O's, I guess the myth will live on, that warranties are any good to 2ndary guitar owners...

I'm sure there are other companies that are tranferrable... but "that" marketing concept seems to be going the way of benifits for people who have worked 30-40 yrs, with a gurantee of bliss, only to find their promised retirement beni's are -> Nadisimo...

Universal Truth: Warranties exist to limit the liability of the MANUFACTURER...not the consumer. Once you realize that, you put your own value on a warranty. I bought my 2 month old Std Elite on ebay for $550. I would have paid $850-$950 new. To me the warranty wasn't woth the difference in price...especially taking into account the way Ovation takes care of their customers (and even better care of US in the Fanclub). So compare the price on ebay to the NEW price, and keep in mind you're in the "Inner Circle." John <>{

I have another bad vice that seems to take a ton of my time, and money - Paintball... At any rate, there's a company called AKA - They build markers of outstanding quality, and back it up with a lifetime warranty... They allow it to be transferred from owner to owner - you just gotta pay em a small fee up front (negligable - $25) and you receive the Lifetime service... Just a thought... and it would allow Ovation to keep an interesting database on the flow of their guitars...

cheers

Mike

Even though Ovation has a warranty policy, and I own a USED Ovation that has no warranty coverage, I feel very "safe" because I know they care. It's a shame we live in an atmosphere where people don't feel OK unless they have it in black and white. They offer you a handshake but people shun that, preferring a contract instead. Sorry for my soapbox. John <>{

I'll take the handshake in a heartbeat - but you know someone will take advantage of it... that's the unfortunate part. I'm quite confident that Ovation will stand behind their product regardless of warranty limitations... Last thoughts - the best warranty is the one you never have to use...

So what is everyones opinion on factory seconds or factory-reconditioned guitars? No warranty but will Ovation customer service still assist with issues?

Thanks,
Mike

I found that out when the plastic tuning knobs on my 1997 Collectors cracked.

One call to Kim Keller,(info provided by Mr. Calman)

One week later, (the mail is slow), a set of ebony knobs at no charge.

Being an OFC member doesn't hurt.

One industry that has fantastic warranty is Fly Fishing rods. Most high end manufacturers have life time warranty and many follow the rod not the owner. Beyond that, many offer no questions asked coverage.

I've broken two $650.00 G.loomis rods (not on purpose and totally my fault) and Loomis replaced them and shipped express for $50.00 dollars each...had it been a workmanship or materials issue it would have been no charge....

Dave,

Guys with expensive hobbies are my best allies. I just love talking to my wife about one guy who rebuilds old porsche's ("don't ever start a task that can't be used to justify buying a new tool"), the guy who has 8 different slalom water skis for different "water" conditions. Christ - it's WATER! My neighbor who races off road quads that cost more than my car. The antique gun collector. His CLEANING tools are worth more than my guitars. Now I add serious fly fishers right in there. All you guys are my HEROES! Dave

ahhh...the butterfly effect...
we all make a difference in the world, even if, we aren't aware of the difference we're makin'...

Tell, Mrs. StandingO, that I simply cannot live without a handcrafted, 4 weight, Winston split-Tonkin cane, bamboo flyrod...

That should be good for a Koa Teardrop Slothead.

or better yet...this will get you well into the vintage Martin market...

BF232 E. F. Payne 7'6" 3/2 Model 197 Written on the hang tag is the weight, 4 oz. and the order number is 20765. This indicates this rod was crafted in the late 1960's by Jim Payne. The guides are wrapped with brown silk, tipped with yellow. The ferrules are blued nickel silver and have ferrule plugs. DF cork grip. The uplocking Spanish cedar insert reel seat has aluminum fittings. Included are the original cloth bag with hang tag and brass capped tube. This rod is in excellent plus condition and was made for Abercrombie & Fitch. $4,995.

Only one question here - How do I get you two boys to meet my mother in law? And you can save on the chloroform by using the shovel twice if you'd like.

So, what you're saying is that you're now officially a classa guy. Another perch in this tree of life I'm apparently meant to see from below. Seems every time I get climbing, another pooch comes by and washes me back down.
