Location: Las Cruces, NM | Watching "One Hit Wonders" on VH1 and they showed a Video of "Afternoon Delight" by the group, Starland Band, that made it a hit. Someone was playing a good looking Ovation.
Interesting thing is that two of the members, husband and wife, wrote "Country Roads" for John Denver and I think I saw an Ovation on one of his shows. |

Location: Tennessee | SVB recorded a TV special at a small University I was attending and included guests John Denver and Mary Travers and Peter Yarrow. I got to be up-close-and-personal with the whole event. It was like the Mama's and the Papa's mated with Up With People. Gawd, I hated that part of the 70's. But the lead guy from SVB played an Ovation. Here's a pic from that era:
Let's hope there is no reunion tour. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | They were pretty tight with John Denver...toured with him back in the early days doing BGV's and guitars. If you want a better memory of them, remember the BGV's on "Country Roads." It's a dated sound of course, but a really sweet memory lane thing for those of us old enough to remember. John <>{ |

Also, Bill and Taffy co-wrote "Take Me Home, Country Roads" with John Denver, and Bill co-wrote "Boulder to Birmingham" with Emmylou Harris.

That gives some factual background to my sketchy opening post and a little history for us old timers who used to see these people here and there. I liked some of the songs Bill co-wrote. |
