I have 2 ovation deep bowl guitars in my cousins house next to LA airport, but shipping is extortionate.
Has anyone had any dealings with this sort of thing? Shipping to Australia is difficult because of some special deal between Australia Post and USPS. The Ovation cases are just outside the USPS size limits.
I've heard that Bax Global is the cheapest. Any other ideas?
BTW, could somebody give me the exact dimensions of a deep bowl case (for an Elite 1768) and could Standingovation give me the exact dimensions of the '05 collectors case?
Thanks.

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | an4340, yes, they both have cases. That's why I want the dimensions - to get an accurate shipping quote. (The next time I contact my cousin, I want to be telling her the shipping details. She's been helpful, but I don't want to put her through much more)
alpep, is 'global priority' the company's name? |

What I would do is have her go to a Guitar Store, get two boxes, stuff in the guitars, and then have her bring the boxes to USPS and get a quote. I've sent things to Singapore about guitar sized for $130US via USPS.
Look at the USPS website to get some ideas. |

What Al is saying is that he shipped an Ovation to Australia anyway, and it was delivered. I have shipped two guitars to Down Under which exceeded the size limit, one Air Post and the other Global Priority, and in both cases the receiver was required to come to the airport and pick them up.
Bax Global is a good bit less than $200, and I may be the guy who told Muzza about that carrier to begin with, as I have received numerous inquiries from someone in Western Australia about shipping Ovations there. |

Hey Paul, I do believe it WAS you that put me on to Bax Global. I think I bid on one of your Ovations on eBay (muzzlightyear)
Small world ain't it?
BTW, I'm in Queensland.
USPS has some stupid agreement with Australia Post that limits the length to 42". I checked for New Zealand and it's 60". That really p*sses me off!!!
Would you risk sending them via USPS anyway? I'm only 90 minutes from Brisbane airport.
Also, was it you that told me that Bax Global would ship for $175 inc insurance from airport to airport? That seems a reasonable price.
Thanks for all your replies. |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | Hey guys, me again. Do any of you have experience of the Elite 1768? I wanted a deep bowl cutaway Ovation and that one came up for the right price. (Well, right price for me - is $521US acceptable?)
When the FRG 05 collectors came up, I jumped on it. I prefer the look of the centre hole, so I'll have to sell the Elite. I'm hoping that the profit will pay for the 05 Collectors. (My wife would kill me if she knew I bought TWO Ovations)
So, what's the impressions of the 1768?

Al is correct in that USPS will ship a guitar sized carton, but only at their highest level of service. It still beats FedEx or UPS prices by far. Bax Global is cheaper yet. However, hidden costs are possible in Airport pickup, such as customs brokerage fees, airport handling fees, etc. Those are all absorbed into a home delivery and often is worth the slight difference.
