Location: toneville USA | i know it's hardshell, and molded is "ok"...
but - no arch? i really don't feel that the guitar is protected very well.
i bought my D28 a 545 Gieb case(arched, 5-ply, super tight padded storage) and that thing could fall from 20 stories and it'd be allright...
i do not mean to compare martin to ovation at all.
there are fiberglass cases that you can literally stand on with the guitar inside...they cost less than $200.
you'd think someone would at least make a nice arched, plush aftermarket case to protect better the ovation guitars we love so much...
BTW- Ovation, if you're listening: PLEASE MAKE A NICE WOOD/MOLDED ARCHED CASE FOR YOUR GUITARS!!
my rant ends here. |

Location: Denmark | Never thought of it before, but I agree (with the original post :) ). Take for example most Ovation stringed instruments. The shape of the body is pretty rugged designed from a mechanical viewpoint, and will probably be the last part of Ovation instruments ever to suffer. The top, however, flat and delicate as an egg. Same with the boxes. Except the lid is unstiffened. And fluffy. |

I must say I watched once as a small child ran across our church lobby and, after jumping in the air, came down feet first on top of my Ovation case. Expecting the worst, I ran over to open it up where all was OK. John <>{ |

| alpep, what's with Ovation and their cases, do they have a preferred model/manufacturer or do they go with the highest bidder these days?..

Iwill try to get one or two posted in my Opics today....
it is a very nice case btw. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The Ovation molded cases are perfectly fine for the job. Yes the Martin Gieb cases are way nicer and better, depending on your definition. But the cheaper Martins don't come in those cases. In the same price range (let's say $750 to $2000), Ovations and Martins come with the same case. When you get above the 2K range, Martin obviously knows that expensive guitars should come in expensive cases and that's what buyers expect. I am sure Ovation will follow the same logic and the 47/OFC will come in a beautiful Gieb (or similar) case befitting a $5000 instrument. |

Besides, the U681T has already been released to the public, and soon the "Heart" and of course the VERY limited (to the OFC only) "Soul" slotheads will be available. |

...Cliff, that's "Jonathan Appleseed", thank you very much.
Hal, just do a search for "Uterus". |

For the price, the ovation cases are like tanks. They will survive being thrown into a van, and spilling over on the floor. Anything more, and you really aren't looking at a regular case, you're looking for bomb proof, which, unless you fly regularly, is overkill. |

remember that many of the martins in the price range you mentioned come with the 540 molded case, which is arched and superior to the ovation.
respectively, $2000 is almost the ceiling for an ovation/adamas. but not for a martin(not even close). and you don't have to spend 5K to get a geib case with a martin. the marquis come with one and you can get them for a little over 3K. THE SAME CASE AS FOR A 7K D-45. you can get a geib case, as i did, for a $2000 D28 and just pay extra. ovation doesn't offer one, that's really my beef.
and the cheap martins come with a flat top hard shell, just like the "expensive" ovations.
la la la...anyone know where to get an arched case for ovation? |

Location: Massachusetts | My take is I don't like the case that comes with the deep/contour bowl.
My midbowl case with my S771 has a bigger closed storage compartment, more room under the headstock for a cable and stuff and I can keep my strap on and close the case.
The deep bowl case barely closes over the guitar and there isn't much room for a strap, a cable, extra strings etc.
I hate taking my strap on and off guitars. Maybe there are acoustic straplocks?
I don't know..every other guitar I have I can keep the strap on and close including the TKL which my Gibson Songwriter Deluxe uses. Tons and tons of room in that case and it is a darn fine case. |

" Case with standard color choices is availabile for delivery within 162 weeks. Case with custom upgrades is made to order and requires 668 weeks delivery." i think it actually reads...1 to 2 weeks, and 6 to 8 weeks. what is in between, that looks like a 6 is a typo or another symbol meaning "to". it makes no sense to tell the consumer "you'll have to wait 3 to 10 years for our product.
the case is very sweet though, eh? |
