Plus whatever the sisters down the hall make for dinner.
Nice thing about having 'grown-up' (like me) women for neighbors...
They have been cooking Holiday Dinners since they were little girls helping Grammy.
And they ain't gonna stop now.
Rumor has it that Ham is on the menu.
[No intoxicating drinkables or smokeables on the menu, but a Cap'n Morgan hot toddy sound great!] |

Location: Round Rock, TX | USDA Prime NY Strips, marinated in a Mixture of Stubb's Beef and Steakhouse marinades, cooked over mesquite cut on my land with fully loaded baked taters, my wife's excellent house salad and warm crusty sourdough washed down with a 25 yr old bottle of Behringers VR Cabernet, followed by a fabulous cheesecake from Katz's deli and a cup or two of excellent coffee. All of this then topped off with a transcendent Madeira and a fine cigar (for me) in the hot tub with my wife.
Oh yeah, baby. |

| Traditional Cuban Christmas Eve dinner, cooked by my loving wife & dedicated to Mom's memory (it was her favorite meal):
Slow-roasted pork roast rubbed with salt & pepper then marinated in citrus/garlic, black beans and rice, fried plantains, avocado salad. The only thing missing is yucca (taro root), usually boiled like a potato and then smothered in mojo (minced garlic lightly sauteed in olive oil & finished with lime juice). We can't find ANY yucca in this podunk town in North Central West Virginia where my in-laws live. |

Location: Michigan | g8r , I was just down in the Keys last month and I noticed alot of resturaunts and roadside
Bar-B-Qs listing Cuban sandwiches.
They seem to be a Chickencordonblue sandwich on great home baked bread with pickles and mustard .The one I had was delicious but I had to have it minus pickles & mustard cause seeds give me Diverticulitous and Mustard is not my style.Does Moma g8r do those for lunch?
Man I can taste the one I had last month down there.
Happy Holidays to Ya. GWB |

We will have the traditional (at least here in the South) ham and turkey, green beans, candied yams, dressing, rice and gravy, cranberry sauce, hot buttered rolls...topped off with a fresh piece of apple pie a la mode.
Just thinking about it makes me want to go take a nap.
Happy holiday wishes to you and yours!! |

Probably a couple of steaks on the grill, rice and a fresh salad.
Followed by a big cup of joe. |

NOT the traditional "Southern" hog jowls and black eyed peas. OK, I'll pass on the jowls also. BUT, a batch black eye peas simmered half a day with just a bit of hog back with some onions and okra... soooo good that your taste buds will slap your face silly! Gotta get some Apalachicola Bay oysters for appetizers and dessert on the half shell. Dem grilled steaks sounds like a winner too... |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Gotta get some Apalachicola Bay oysters for appetizers I went to two different stores to get Oysters (Chesapeake Bay): all they had were half pints and pints...and the prices were outragious...it sucks being so far from home: I grew up on the Bay...now I'm 8 hours away...we used to get oysters by the bushel basket for $30 bucks...now they wanted that for a half pint...makes you want to scream......
Still, If I can get out, I may look today again...hate to break tradition...
UPDATE:
Success! SWMBO just found a quart of selects for a decent price on her way home from work...gotta love that woman! |
