This is my first on here. I am the owner of an Adamas W597 made in 2002. I never thought much of it beside that's it the best accoustic/electric that i have ever played.
But a friend of my wife came along and said that it wasn't an ordinary Adamas. That it was special in some way.
Could anybody here tell me if it's true or not, how much it's worth ballpark... ect that kind of stuff.

Location: Phoenix AZ | W597 is a standard model. Maybe yours was custom configured w/ different color or different pre-amp, etc. Try comparing it tot he description and photo of W597 on the adamas website. Dave |

I will compare it on the website. But i thinks it's more like Stephent28 said. I think the carbon top is what got him confused. The cross patherns that look like stiches to me.
It is a very nice guitar thaugh.

Location: Orange County, California | He's probably used to seeing the unidirectional tops. The Adamas I and II reissues as well as the U681T have them. The W597, Q597 and Melissia Ethridge are done in the "new" CVT cross-woven material. the 1857/1598 are SMT's with the "wood-grain" look. The new Adamas literaute (not the website though) describes the differences in the tops. There is a difference in sound. One is not "better" than another, they each have a unique voice. I just aquired my first CVT. it sounds even better than it looks (if you can believe that).

This is the Millennium...about 50-75 made for year 2000.
First of all, this is an Adamas and, IMHO, Adamas guitars have a different voice (and projection) than a wood top.
We can break it into three "voices" - textured top (Adamas I and II), the CVT (which includes the Millennium), and the SMT. All great.
Haven't had an opportunity to play another CVT but this one has a harpsichordic element in its voice. Hard to describe other than comparing it to a slothead 12-str v. standard headstock.
Guess, as W-2 often says, ice cream. Only this one is the full sundae, complete with topping and a cherry on top.
Won't belabor the point but everyone compares guitars against the holy grail (pre-war Martin.) As if the guitar can't be improved. Personally, again IMHO, all three lines of Adamas have improved from the wood box. Acoustic guitarists are a rare group - they want to be "purists". Yet, everything around them, has improved through technology and someone who thought "outside of the box." Course, they want pre-amps, mikes, amps, etc., that no one even imagined in 1900. |

Location: Orange County, California | I haven't owned or played as many other high-end O's as others, but here's my take. From what I have played (Custom Legend 30th, '05 Collectors, custom Elites, etc), as well as some nice wood boxes, I can say The Adamas are just different. They have a very "Live" top with many well balanced harmonic overtones. I have heard and heard people call them "12 string like", or "harpsichordal". There is allot of sound coming up from these guitars. They just seem to ring forever. The wood tops can have this too. I first heard this on my 1763 when I found the right strings for it. I kept hearing extra notes that I wasn't playing in certain chords. I know it happens with many wood boxes, but not many for under $3K. The funny thing is, my U681T lacks this delicacy compared to other Adamaii. It's tone is more "pure" and centered. Allot more!! I have lived with an Adamas I for awhile and although it'w not my favorite to play, I kept coming back to it for the sound.

Now I'm gonna give my two cents about what's been said. I'm new here and i don't to sound like i know everything...etc
cause i don't.
So here it is, i have had pretty much only Ovations Guitare in the last 25 years i've been playing. Some made overseas and some made in USA. And I have to say, that to me, there are only two Ovations that are on league of their own. And to me that includes all brand all years. So of course any Adamas i've payed is a dream come true. And there was one other, that was stolen from me at show (damn backstage passes given away like candies to kids). And that one, i can never find again to buy for some reason. It was a natural wood top, the one without the gloss, from the early 90s, 91 or 92 i think. It was Elite Ovation. Don't remember the serial or anything, but i do remember that this Elite sounded as good if not better than the adamas. Something out of this world. Does anybody has any infos on this one because it would really make me happy to get another one. I've never really got over my loss. LoL!!!!!!
As for the Martin pre war or not, or any other Taylor...etc
Well, again my humble opinion. Beside the fact that they are old, look like you've been playing the guitar for 100 years and that the wood really setled in and dried well, i would still go for an Adamas over those any day. And if you had the Elite i was talking about earlier, to me you don't need anything else, for the Elite will give you what the Adamas can't, to me that is that special wood sound.

So I'm very sure of the date as far as 1992ish.
Also the raw finish on wood (i can remember the smell of the wood every time i opened the case. I ricked SO GOOD!!!!)
One thing i just remembered. The neck had some little wooden triangle things instead of just being plain. I mean where the fret spots are. Remindes me of the one on the early Adamas.
Some now i'm hopeful that someby here can help me out. That would be something if i can find out exactly what model and get it back.

I went in the 4 sale section on this forum and did a search for Elite, and sure enough, there was on ebay a little ago.

Oh my God, I can't beleive it. Now I just got to find a 1993 Elite serial 461005 or around that, you know what i mean. Cedar top, that was the smell.
And it went for $700.00

Thank you very much for the compliment MWoody. Maybe it's because it is my guitar, but i have yet to see another Adamas, excluding the "Beige" (white/blue) of the originals Adamas, that stands out like that. Every time i take it out to play, there's a big "Wow!" coming for everybody.
I think that's why people say it's a special guitar. But there must 1000s of those out there. I'm surprise there's not more people using it in the industry.
I was thinking what a beautiful instrument it would be if Ovation was making the same guitar only with the round back made out of the same material as the top. That would be something.
Now as for the strap. Man, I usualy play everything (electric, accoustic, ukulele) sited, I found years ago that it gets more focus from the audience, my opinion, but here and there I have to play standing. And I pretty much hate every single strap I see. So i fugured might as well not buy any and wait until people give them to me when they have no more use for them. So that's how I get some old, usualy 30 to 40 years old Ace Strap that are beat up and look like this one.
