I'm absolutely ASTONISHED at the low end thump coming out of my newly acquired 1117 Legend! It's seriously entering into Dreadnaught territory. As a matter of fact, I'm not a big fan of Dreadnaughts, and if my Legend had any more low end coming out of it, I would find it too tubby sounding. To me, it's perfectly balanced.

The tonal difference between it and my 1137 Matrix is like night and day. Does anyone know what kind of bracing was used for this particular Matrix? It sounds great too, and I've been playing the hell out of it since it arrived. I was wondering for days on end "How much better sounding can the Legend possibly be"? Well, I got my answer. The Matrix has more mid and high end emphasis, and that's a good thing for fingerpicking. It's not lacking in lows either. I've never once thought "This is a tinny guitar". The first time that I played the Legend, the low end just GUSHED out of that guitar! Amazing!

So, now I can't help but wonder if that Matrix would sound like that if it had the A bracing. Oh, and the solid top probably helps some too.

I'll NEVER EVER be so quick to judge an Ovation before playing it for myself again. I've checked out the Google groups and, if I were to believe what I read there, I'd be convinced that Ovations were the worst sounding guitars ever made. I know better now!

Very cool to hear about your Legend. What year was it built?

I don't know. The serial # is 259056. No truss rod cover, and it's a brown bowl too.

Aren't you the one who instigated the whole A bracing = enhanced low end mystique? It's exactly the reason that I bid on this guitar. If we're not careful, we're going to drive up the prices on those particular Ovations. Maybe we should stop talking about it! This guitar is living proof though.

I think that part of the reason that the 1117 Legend sounds wo well acoustically is the lack of electronics.

1981 model. It does have the A bracing pattern. Good purchase. I'm glad you're happy with the guitar. Those 80's Ovations had a great sound.

A fantastic sound! Now I'll just have to put up with people snickering and muttering things like "Oh, that must be his spare guitar"

Just for amuzement purposes, I googled "Ovations suck" on the google groups and found all kinds of interesting comments. All of them idiotic. All of them by people who are much to ABOVE just simply trying out an Ovation before telling the world that it's a useless piece of trash. That's OK. You can just send all of that useless trash to me!

Oh BTW - does anyone know exactly what kind of bracing was used on that Matrix? I'm sure it wasn't an A bracing.
