If you look at the thread where Sam is having a dread-bodied Adamas built for him, you'll see he used a top like this for the construction. Maybe I ought to buy the top and have one built for me now that his luthier has learned all the mistakes not to make. :) |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | ttenn, your right,im so ashamed.I took my early slothead adamas serial number 25 out of the case and beat the shit out of some guy who was making fun of my plastic back guitar. He would not stop,so i kept beating him until he lay limp on the ground..Realizing i had just broken my classic guitar and now cannot go to the slothead reunion at the factory(im very upset),i ran home wiped the blood off and put the few surviving parts(the top)on ebay..I hope to get close to what the whole guitar is worth by selling it piece by piece. The volume and tone knobs survived as well.I will wipe them off and post them next. The neck is in two pieces but i plan to superglue it(stuff works great)together and put it on ebay as well..By selling all these parts i hope to recover the value of my rare slothead adamas $8-10 grand??
Thr final lesson i have learned here is that a deep bowl works much better in a fight than a shallow bowl or a new contour bowl when protecting yourself from anti ovation people.. |

Location: boulder | everyone send their happy thoughts to the factory while repeating over and over:
"shiny bowl, graphite top, 5 piece neck with walnut fretboard."
it sort of has a nice lilt to it. And the guitar would not be frankensteins cousin. Not that the mothership is wanting a project like this, (because I asked if even possible), but anyone see any pros/cons to doing this build? I do not mean whether it is cost effective or even rational, I mean would the tone and sustain be worth the physical and mental effort.
(btw, I have a shiny bowl and neck assembly if that helps). peace, (pretty sure 3 cups of coffee in an hour doesn't effect me.) mike |

How about the real story? In case you haven't learned yet, sarcasm doesn't play well in print. Lots of people think that anything posted on the internet must be true. I can see this story being posted all over the internet. Soon to be another urban legend. |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | OK the real story. The top came from a former Ovation employee Richard Starkey who is now a promenant Martin clinician. He playes at music stores all over the country promoting big "M" .Richard worked at ovation for a few years and was best of freinds with Jim Rickard. In fact Jim was his best man at his wedding.Recently,i bought a mint 87 collectors from Richard along with this adamas top he had laying around,a few ovation belts(NOS) and a few carved adamas bridges...

Why didn't you offer the ADAMI TOP to us guys FIRST ???
Id like to bid on it, but not get into a pissing match with another board member... (I see FUGOT is your sole bidder)

Give Mike a call and ask if his "High" is higher than yours. Then watch agonizingly during the last 10 excrutiating minutes. In China no one would own it. In Japan it would have a 99 year lease on it.
Probably 2 cents too much. |

Location: boulder | guys and gals,
I just spent an exorbitant amount of money on a non ovation, non adamas, but it was built in the same building. My bid is just a little above the opening bid. I won't be bidding any more if that helps. Plus Sam needs as much money as he get. Those custom builds don't grow on trees you know.
AB: thanks for thinking of me.....peace mike
edit here: and I always have said and still say, bid, bid bid, what you think it is worth to you. I will not collude pricing, but the truth is how I said it. peace again mike |
