Location: Denver, PA | I have a Legend LX. Like it a lot. But I am not crazy about the preamp volume controll. Way to sensitive to minor changes. I try and always put it at the same spot, about 3/4 but if I am off just a little bit, it makes a huge difference in sound. I am trying to figure out how I can set it consitantly. So when we practice and then play Sunday it is the same. This past week I was off to the soft side and I couldn't be heard. I knew I should have turned it up, but go into worship and didn't. Since I am the Worship Leader, the others need to hear me to follow. I hear that Ovation is coming out with one that can replace this one. Not sure if it is out or not. Or how crazy the price will be. Anybody her about this? |

Location: closely held secret | The volume on the OPPro does seem to be a lot more sensitive to change on the upper half than the lower. I leave mine smack dab center, and make the sound boy work for me.
But Dave will probably tell us it's all in our minds... |

Location: NW NJ | Yeah, but at least the OP-Pro adjusts the volume relatively smoothly. It is a world better than the OP-30. With that one the first half of the slider range is "0" and the last half is wide open. Most frustrating thing I have ever used. Thank God for Budny and company. Slapped an OP-Pro and the OPP in my Elite-T and the difference is amazing. I never realized how much the thinline pickup "quacks"! |

(A hungry lefty w/G.A.S. wants to know!) I think that Joe and I may have gotten you all excited unnecessarily with the "LR" In 1778T-LR. LR stands for the color - Lusty Red. I hate the name but really like the color. I feel like you read "Left Handed" in the LR - sorry.
As for the LX udgrade(s) - here you go. For the last year or so the Elite T's have had the LX neck system. They don't have the LX top bracing and GS bowl and they come with the OP-30 preamp and and thinline pickup.
I sent mine to the mothership and had Budny & Co. replaced the OP-30 and thinline with the OP-Pro and OPP (original patented pickup) that come with the LX guitars. I did this because the thinline pickup is really "quacky" like most piezo-electric pickups and the OP30's volume adjustment is real "notchy" (0-5 = almost no output and 5-10 = almost totally wide open). Now, with the OP-Pro and OPP, the instrument sounds beautiful. Almost no "quack" from the OPP and I love the OP-Pro's volume control and EQ preset. A truly outstanding upgrade for a VERY reasonable price. The 1778T is an amazing instrument especially for, but really regardless of the price. Acoustically it is a boomer, and plugged in with the preamp/pickup upgrade it is simply wonderful -- and that maple neck is to die for! |

LR = SHLS = Manly Mauve
I have waited on this post to see where it was going. Many great offerings.
I have a 1778LX-4 purchased from Al Pep in December of 03 when they first emerged. I hadn't had a chance to play one and ran on faith about the model. No disappointments!
Yes the OP Pro puts out half the power but it is plenty for any system I've plugged into.
My only regret is the ding I put in the top when I tripped on the unlatched case. |

Excellent guitar. Great price.
I did a song on it and put it on Soundclick. See an earlier posting for the URL. |

Location: Orlando, Florida | You can tell the difference between the "LXed" and the "non-LXed" 1778T immediately by the added truss rod cover on the headstock. Even though I have the OP-30 preamp, I believe the neck system and the bowl is the LX upgrade. Also, the 1778T-LR ("Lusty Red"- I hate the name also, but love the color) was only recently added. When the Elite T series was originally released, I think they were only available in black and pewter. All in all, a great guitar at a great price.

I wasn't reading it as "LR = left-handed," I was just curious how some LX 'upgrades' ended up on a non-LX guitar, since I figured they wouldn't do that (and they WON'T add any LX features, the the scalloped top bracing and new neck system) to a current lefty production guitar - least that's what I've been told so far...
...so I was just checking if this was a policy change for the Ovation factory. |

| UPS delivered my 6756LX yesterday. Bought it ever-so-slightly used - easy to play for a 12, great sounding unplugged, greater sounding plugged. This is my second O (first is an 1867). I need to get used to the deeper bowl - and lose another 10 lbs. :) |
