How come the imports get all the different tops...

I have a great idea for a US reissue: the Elite 1537 available with a choice of 3 tops: traditional Spruce, KOA, & Cedar. Start writing those letters.

The only Koa top I've heard that I like was the "2006 Collectors"

That was a nice one.
I wonder what final form it will take.

I will bite, "2006" Collectors it is. Add the Abalone treatment and I'll sell Al half my liver!

He still takes trades, right?

I played one of the Koa models today - pretty nifty looking and sounded OK. It would be nicer with a satin finish - a little too much gloss with such a complicated top grain.

I spent about 45 minutes in a local Ted Brown trying to fall inlove with the idea of bringing home one of the Koa Celebs at $650. The looks did it, it felt good and the acoustic sound was ok for 2% milk. When I plugged it in its weakness showed. The top and the pickup just didn't get along very well.

You're spoiled, Mike. Once you've played the USA models, the Koreans just don't cut it.

The price on that is getting a bit high for a Korean one...JMHO.
