As we sit in our homes on this Friday night, we have members of the OFC in harm's way. Paul Hebert, I hope you have been able to leave (Lafayette).

Geehod, I need to turn on a TV. I'll chip in with prayers from here. Any OFCers in thereabouts headed for MI need a place to stay?

Part of an email from Paul:

I am still here in Lafayette. The wind is really rockin the trees out there, and I can't believe I still have electricity. The storm is going to come inland around midnight, so I will see what happens then. I have a few of my family members here, and we are keeping on top of the situation as best we can. What concerns me now is that the storm is suppose to stall when it comes in and dump a whole lot of rain. Some are saying maybe 25 inches of rain. That would really mess us up. The lights are flickering, so I don't know how much longer we will have power. To my west is a town called Lake Charles. They are really getting it hard.

South of New Orleans here and still getting battered by this 7 hour long band of 55 mph gusty azz curtain of hard rains coming up from the gulf. Flooded the lower ends of Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish and some flooding in other parts of town. Lots of funnel clouds flying by, what a sight, but none touched down in my area. I know that Lafayette took one hell of a beating and still is at this very moment. I have a few friends out there and in Crowley, 30 miles west of Lafayette. Lake Charles is devastated. New Orleans is right back where it was before as the levee systems were breached again. They were still doing search and rescues as Rita came inland. I'll soon be relocating, I've had enough but as I look for homes on the internet, there are hardly any homes available within the six states around us due to the many evacuees. This is wild.

Prayers out to everyone affected.

You guys are great keeping us in your hearts.

Heart Rawks!!!

We see things differently when we know someone there. I was in Houston last week and had dinner with a good friend who lives between Houston and Galveston. We haven't heard from them. The church I was at was very involved in helping evacuees from Louisiana. Now they are are evacuated.... My own church here is part of a relief team that was in New Orleans up until yesterday. I haven't heard from them today....

One irony is that my trip to Houston was to meet with church leaders from Honduras. That relationship stems to the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Those people know very much how to clean up after a hurricane. It's just tough getting a visa. :D

Hi everyone, what a night I just had. The rain was coming down so hard, it was like looking at a grey wall. The large oak trees close to here were really swinging, but none of them fell over. I went outside about 2 in the morning to clear the debris out of the drainage pipe. That really helped as the water was starting to get high in the yard. We are still having wind gusts, and the rain comes and then stops for awhile. Looks like all will be ok here. Thanks to all of you for the good wishes. :)

Glad you made it. Looks like our brothers to the east got the brunt of the storm again. We may just end up with a little, if any rain here in DFW.
