Welcome aboard and hope you enoy your stay here! |

| I have owned several, enjoyed all, a couple were finger shredder's but all were pretty nice... good bang for the buck.
and I think they are a member of the family... sort of.
God Bless,

www.acousticguitar.com
and Mark Markure (from Takamine) shows up there quite often . . . |

Location: Cicero, NY | That's interesting, Cliff. I have all but stopped visiting that site because it seemed that those guys were all very high end Taylor, Martin, etc. snobs who rarely reached down to the common player who only had a...ugh...Takamine. Now it very well coulda been sumpthin' I said but usually people aren't shy about telling me how obnoxious I can be.
Maybe I'll give it a second shot. |

Location: Studio City, California, USA | I have noticed when i came in the USA that Takamine had somewhat of a bad rep out here while in europe it is concidered as a high quality guitar, mostly. As for me, i used to own a takammine, the early high end model made in japan which i sold so i can get some cash to finance my moving to the US. But i still have a Takamine Natural G Series, which is one girl i will never divorce. I think it's an underrated brand in the US.
Thank you |

Still pretty much the case.
But it's gotten a "bit" better (even for Ovations, if you can believe that!).
I'd venture t'say that if you asked a Tak-specific question, you'd get an honest response.
It's when you ask the open-ended "What's the Best Guitar for . . . " question that you'll get a dozen or so polarized views . . .
People can be SO damn "BrandLoyal" to guitars . . .
. . . can you imagine?? :-) |

| Well here's my question...
I just got an EAN-16c through a trade & am having difficulties with hum at Church with it...
It's almost like it's not grounded properly & the lights are introducing hum...
It goes away completly when I mute the guitar. |

| Also... In my own 2 amps at home it works fine... |

Location: NJ | D'ya think it's REALLY an electrical "hum", or could it be just a little low-end feedback??
It SOUNDS (t'me) like you're playing at a little higher volume at church, and the fact that muting the strings stops it, leads me to believe your getting just a little low-end "howl".
A simple/inexpensive remedy is a FeedbackBuster. It's a big rubber plug that fits into your sound hole and eliminates howl. It will affect the unamplified sound when playing "unplugged", but (with a little practice) it pops in/out rather easily. |

Location: Cicero, NY | Odd. I don't play in church (guitar anyway :D ) but really get no hum in any amp I've plugged into with my 10C. I think the Tak electronics are typically pretty reliable although I certainly don't know what may have transpired before you aquired the guitar. I would probably recommend shooting over to your local GC and plugging it in there and trying to duplicate the hum for their tech. Maybe he can shed some light on it for you.
Anybody else want to take a crack at a possible cause or solution? |

Flourescent and Vapor lights ordimmer switches can do this. Any ungrounded or electrical device hooked up wrong can set this in motion. Isolate everthing if possible.
As for playing in church (not guitar) - am I the only one that can hear Chuck Berry in the background playing our old Alma Mata? |

I feel ya on that one ...
(no offense intended to whoever loves the UMGF)
... I was once a member of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum (UMGF), and pretty much, the vibe I got was pretty much the same as the quote above. The threads composed, mainly of D18s, D28s, HD28s, custom shops, jumbos, OMs, signature models, vintage, special and limited editions, Bellezza Neras, and the like.
With the exception of the LXM as the better choice to the boat paddling backpacker - reading between the lines of the posts - anything lower than a D15, such as the X series and road series are almost always never mentioned, never talked about, and looked down upon. The "cyber-atmosphere" there was enough to make me feel inferior, given the Ms that I own. I have stopped contributing and/or lurking since then ...
Peace! |

Call the Ovation factory and they can put you in touch with Mike Markure, the Tak product guy. He can get you sorted out. |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | I was in a local music shop (my oldest kids are taking bass and violin lessons there, so I hang out for an hour on Saturday), they have a few guitars but somewhat specialize in school band instruments, etc.
Anyway the best acoustic guitars they have are two Takamines. Not sure of the models, but very nice guitars (they have Seagulls, Ibanezes, Montanas, some Hamer Slammers, etc.).
A guy was playing one of the Takamines through an acoustic amp and is sounded quite nice.
The kicker for me was the electronics:
Cool-Tube: Cool Tube
The guy playing it was going on and on about the cool tube and he was a very good player throwing out nice jazzy stuff.
Anyway I was impressed with these guitars. :D |

| I've got a nice Tak EN-10 that I bought new in 1990. I have been testing the waters as far as selling it, but when It comes down to it, it wouldn't break my heart if no one was interested. |

I'm sure a lot of visitors and lurkers could express the same sentiments about this site ... all the talk is centered around rare models, Collectors, Adamii, slotheads, etc. There's not a lot of positive discussion here about the lower 3/4ths of the Ovation line. Which make sense, since afficianados always tend to gravitate to the best a brand has to offer. That said, the OFC is still a far better place than most forums on the web.
My first guitar was a 1975 Takamine F-400S. The one I wish I had never parted with ... but raising a family sometimes alters your priorities so it went in exchange for some much needed cash. It was a lawsuit era solid top marvel ... beautiful craftsmanship and outstanding tone and playability. Recently looked at the Tak line again as my son wanted a dread ... very nice guitars, but $1000 and up for the good ones. And well worth it, I might add. The "G" series are OK guitars for the money, but not much different than the host of other mass-produced brands coming out of asia. |

I now have a friend who has a REALLY nice Tak 6-string (in koa) with oodles of abalone on it that he got (for a song, I might add) from a friend of his in Fla. who got it from some CountryMusicStar (who . . I don't remember/know/care) that it was supposedly a custom-build for. A Very Nice guitar. |

Location: Evansville,IN | I have a Tak G series. Probably not the greatest acoustic made, but it stays in tune and is very playable.
It is also the only acoustic that I own, but seems to sound better the more I play it, which is everyday. Glad that I bought it, and will hold on to it for a while. :) |
