Some people like Peavey, some Fender, some Crate, Marshall... Go to GC and or Sam Ash and try the acoustic amps... Sam Ash has a private label one too... See what sounds good to YOUR ears... That ice cream "FLAVOR", thing again... kinda like buying a guitar...

Location: SoCal | I was in Best Buy today to get something and saw a Peavey Back Stage amp that has to be the "best buy" for the price. 10w but sounds good. $69.
My niece had my Marshall so needed an amp to give her to get mine back. |

Location: SE Michigan | I just picked up a Roland Cube 30 from Musicians Friend. 30 watts with modeling effects, chorus, flanger, reverb, delay, clean and lead channel. I have only messed with it for a couple hours, but so far I am very pleased. It ought to be just loud enough for small band sessions with drums, but is also small enough to be a bedroom size practice amp. All that plus its very compact and cool looking.
All of this for a reasonable $229. |

crate=crap. you can get a used Trace Elliot for a couple bucks more than a Crap. why pair up a sweet guitar like a legend with a junkbox like Crap (crate) or a cheap roland/peavey?
you'd be better off buying a decent floor-based multiFX unit and plugging it into your computer speakers than using a cheap roland because they use the cheapest speakers in the world.
really- save a couple bucks and get something good!the new fishman amp looks very sweet. and i'd bet all of my guitars it sounds and works better than most of the junk you'll find at GC. |

Location: SE Michigan | The guy asked for the "best value" amp for home use. The Roland Cube 30 is a great value. Also it has a clean channel and an acoustic modeler selection that sound pretty decent to my ears.
Also from what I've read, Trace Elliot amps are over rated - over priced - under powered fizz boxes that buzz incessantly. |

Location: South Jersey | This may be off the mark, but I use a rather large Peavey Stereo Chorus 2x12. It'a 120 watts digital, made early 90's, very versatile and about 200 bucks used. I play my D'Angelico through it and it is a wonder. I also use it for my Motif 6, and it sounds just as good for that. It isn't great for small gigs or anything because it's so large, but the sound is just fantastic in my living room. |

Hey Hal, Is that statement based on personal experience? How many Crate acoustic amps have you owned or gigged with?
There certainly are better amps out there than Crate, but the original question concerned bang for the buck for a home use amp. Crate acoustic amps sound great for home use and there's nothing in the price range that is any better. I recently spent some time playing a 1771LX through my Crate CA125D and I was amazed at the sound. With the Pre-EQ on, the guitar has a great modern sound.

Not to start an argument, but, he asked for the best amp to use with his Ovation LX. Again, the Cube 30, which is a great amp btw, is for electric guitars, not acoustic guitars. Roland makes a great acoustic amp, but the Cube 30 is not it.
Also, the acoustic model is designed to make electric guitars sound like acoustics, it is not designed for acoustic guitars. The subject of electric v. acoustic amp differences have been discussed enough around here so that it is clear an electric amp will not provide the spectrum of sound that an acoustic amp would when used with an acoustic guitar.
No slam on the Cube 30, or on you, it is just that the Cube 30 is not designed for what he's looking for. |

| I second Trace Elliot - I bought a new TA50 last spring when they cleared them out of MF ($399) - but they're always on the bay. Perfect for home or small-room gig (small, has two 5" speakers). I use it with my Legends - 1867 and 6756 - great sound. |

I agree also on used Trace Elliot amps. If you can find one, the now discontinued, 200MV from Gallien Krueger was a great acoustic guitar amplifier. |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | My Pignose 40 sounds pretty good with my mandolin Barcus Berry Jr, but it doesn't have reverb. My grandson bought a 30 watt Vox, I think, and it sounded great and had reverb, I think a tube amp has a great acoustic sound. |
