As some of you know, I just snagged a 1581 off ebay a few weeks back. Someone at the time asked me to post my feelings about the difference in sound from my 1537. All I can say is WOWWWWWWW! I haven't been able to put it down since I got it. It has the most fabulous sounding lows, and clear sounds all the way up the fretboard, and plays so easily! The 1537 has also has a full sound, but a bit softer and less resonance. I'm still keeping her though, she's at the factory getting a makeover. I have a question though ...
Is the there much difference in the sound between the 1581 and the 1681? or the Adamas 1?
I am seriously thinking about selling my boat, and a bunch of other less-important things than guitars, so I can get another Adamas.

Vince, was this an original 1581 or one of the reissues?

There was a thread recently about this (too lazy to paste it). Many prefer the sound of the 1581 over the 1681. Dave

Yeah, it was an original. The original picture on Ebay was lousy, but it turned out to be in great shape, with the exception of some pitting on the buttons. Since the factory is doing work on the 1537, they said they would send me new buttons for the other guitar also.

So, you say the 1581 doesn't sound quite as good as the 1681? I guess I expected the full-bodied guitar to have a fuller sound. Perhaps the absence of sound holes on the lower side compensates somehow? Is there any difference in sound between them and the Adamas I?

You got it flipped Vince....a lot of people preferred the sound of the 1581 over the 1681.

I have a reissue 1581 and an original 1681. I love the sound of both of them.

So what is the actual difference between a 1581 and a 1681? YES I DID A SEARCH.

I've seen both cutaway and non-cutaway 1681's.
One thread here on OFC implies the difference is just cutaway vs non-cutaway. I have a non-cutaway 1681, which implies the 1581 is cutaway.
This history page at Ovation suggests the 1681 in non-cutaway, and the 1581 is a cutaway. However, the Ovation 1681 Reissue Cutaway page shows a 1681 cutaway.

I think it is a mistake.
The cutaway model is 1581.
The non cutaway : 1681.
They did the same in their advertisement documents(paper version).

So, it is a typo and the re-issue is really a 1581 cutaway. Or it is the wrong picture and the re-issue is a 1681 non-cutaway?

Re-issue is FOR SURE a cutaway, single epaulet, deep bowl. I've played it. Dave
