I'm getting old. I owned these guitars but now seem totally confused about the model numbers. Bare with me:

1681 is Adamas II deep non-cutaway, that's clear.
1581 is Adamas II deep cutaway, single epaulet. So far so good.
1881 is Adamas II shallow cutaway, TWO epaulets.
Now it gets interesting.
Was there an Adamas II deep cutaway, TWO epaulets? I swear it exists. What is the model number?

aren't they still just 1581's w/two epaulets. I have a 1581 with both bass and treble soundholes. (it was made in 1999, maybe they switched over time??) peace

I think fugot is right. 1581 is cutaway deep bowl. At some point they had 2 epaulets and then later only one. Dave

The Ovation catalogs show different versions of the 1581 over the years.

1982 and 1988: single epaulet
1994 and 1997: two epaulets

So I think they switched from single to two epaulet version somewhere in the early 90'.

I think that the Adamas II cutaway version with 2 epaulets were not enable before 1994.

In this GERMAN CATALOG from 1993 (page #16), the 1581-5 with single epaulet.

In this US CATALOG from 1994 (page #6), the same 1581-5 with two epaulets.

It would not be a 7 for the 4th digit, it would be a 1. The SS bowl would have been the second digit but I don't know what it would have been.
I think McPaul has it right.
