ok ... this may be a dumb inquiry, but I really am curious. So here's the question ...

Other than its distinct characteristics (by sight alone), what's the difference between a slothead and a peg head in a guitar's headstock?

In the past, I've only known slotheads being widely used in nylon stringed guitars, and the pegheads for steel strings. Lately, however, I also noticed slotheads with steel strings. Is there a difference with regards to sound and tone? string/neck tension? anything? or is it just for aesthetic purposes?

Your answer(s) to the inquiry will be greatly appreciated.

Peace!
Gil

A slothead would have a greater angle break over the nut, promoting a better sound. On the other side of the equation, they are more expensive to build and a pita on which to change strings...
