| HELP! I am trying to find information on an Ovation 1869-x I purchasd it on Orlando Florida. The lable in the guitar states that it is one of only 6 ever made, It reads 4/6. It is also hand signed by Kaman II. I would like to know what kind of woods were used and the specs of the guitar. What is it worth , the whole deal.
Thanks. |

Personally, I never heard of this guitar before.
According the model number, it should be a Custom Legend super shallow bowl.
The "X" indicate probably a special color or a special wood???
Maybe can you post some pics here or in your gallery???
Thanks

| Thanks for responding I placed three pictures in my gallery. It is listed under "stevek". I appreciate any help. I am curious to know what kind of wood was used for the top & neck. I want to know when it was made and posible how much it is worth. I am assuming it could be worth something being that their were only 6 made. Thanks! |

It seems to be a "bear claw" spruce top like on some 1987 collectors models.
Do you know the serial to date this beauty???
Congrats Stevtek, You own a very very nice Custom legend!!!
How does it sound???

| Thanks! It sounds absolutely awsome! The serial number is 447666. I am trying to find out what it night be worth. I am curious to know if I recieved a fair price. Being that their were only 6 made I can only assume that it will increase in value over the years if I take care of it. Currently it looks brand new, in mint condition. Thanks for any help. Do you know if I contact Ovation if they keep records of this sort of thing? |

She's a beaut, for sure.

Please tell me where you found such a nice Ovation in Orlando. I've found it pretty hard to find decent Ovations here!
BTW, beautiful guitar. Enjoy! |

| I bought the guitar at the Guitar Center in Winter Park, Florida. Some guy sold them a bunch of collectables including a 68 Les Paul. I probably pais way too much for it but I love it. I saw that someone responded a few up that said it is probably worth 800. How can that be possible with it being 1 of only 6. You would think it would be worth much more |

I love abalone and bearclaw ... I would snap it up for $800 in an instant if it played well. Hell, I'd snap it up for even more. Wanna sell it? |

Location: North Texas | Value can greatly exceed worth for any hard goods. In a sense, the worth of the guitar is exactly what you paid for it, or what someone is actually willing to give you for it. The "value" may be far greater for a number of reasons, including sound, appearance, rarity, or even sentimentality. If you would sell it for the same amount you bought it for, that is what it's worth. If not, then for you, it has a greater value. If the guitar is as rare as you say it is, and the sound is "awesome", I don't see how you could have paid too much. You can always get more money, but you can't always get that special guitar, one that's just right for you. Enjoy it! |

| I agree and I never said I paid too much for the guitar. I do love it but as a collector I am interested as to what the value of it for insurance purposes. I do not know much about the technical terms of the guitar. Does bear claw mean that it is actual bear claw marks or is that just the look?
Thanks. |

I just saw the pic in your gallery, and it's definitely one beautiful guitar! I may be naive in this area, but I used to know someone back in my college days who once made use of a blue book in determining the value for his early 80s Gibson hummingbird. I think there's a fee charged for making the inquiry. Here's the link:

Hopefully, you'll be able to find the answer to your inquiry. Good luck.
Peace!

In general, as the current value is what a buyer will pay, eBay is making the market for most guitars. However, even eBay has times of the year when the market is "soft". It does have the ability to reach out to collectors that might not see it in a local guitar shop.
Probably the best way to value is to estimate replacement value minus any damage/wear. How much would a special order cost?
One marker would be the 30th Anniv CL w/bearclaw spruce. A limited run in 2004. Course, the 30th has the OP-Pro and the deep bowl. |

Brad... I am just having fun putting the composites together to show-off my collection. I have a few bearclaw tops, so I searched the net for the best bear to use as a background.
I was joking about getting the bear's permission, but it turns out that the bear picture is "Protecting a Cache" by Dr.Lynn Rogers. If I would have known, I would not have used Dr.Rogers' work in a public forum without his permission.
Lady Noah & I really like the bear and want him holding our bearclaw tops. I just got off the phone with Dr.Rogers. If you are serious about sharing the photo, we will make the appropriate requested donation for its use. |

The picture of the top came off of the picture Sam provided when I bought it (thank you Sam). Although I've had the '87 for months, I have yet to take my own pictures. |
