Well I was given the OK to post this stuff and wanted to do it earlier but wind out spending the day in the hspt and finally have the opportunity now to do it. Rick gave me the OK to post about what new to expect from Ovation.

Next year is the 40th anniversary of Ovation and they are planning a few reissues. These guitars will be built in the tradition of the old ones but may have some updated features to bring them up to the 21th century.

Glenn Campbell reissue 6 and 12 string.
Josh White reissue.

These guitar will help pave the way for Ovation to offer a classic series of guitars with hand laid fiberglass bowls etc. This is very exciting for those who want that cool classic sound look and feel.

The #47 reissue should be available in the 1st qtr of 06 so if are waiting for one you have to wait just a little longer.

the 06 collectors will feature a single epaulet koa topped guitar with a cutaway contour bowl. It will have the new op pro studio preamp. This preamp has the VIP system which emulates different studio conditions and microphone techniques. You will have a blend on the preamp to add or detract piezo from the output sound. I have not seen this preamp nor have I had a chance to experiment with it but from all indications, this will be the one to look for. ESPECIALLY if you play plugged in and live. You can bring the studio sound to your live gig!!! Now how cool is that????? There will be 5 presets which represent 5 different type of microphones avialable in studios. AS I understand it, it works on the premise that the acoustic guitar is best represented by the recorded sound in front of the instrument as captured by a microphone. I am sure I am not representing this in the best way but it will be really cool to see it in action.

The OFC guitar is still a go. Rick told me we will have to wait until the run of 47 are finished. I have some ideas for this guitar and it may change from the original for reasons to be discussed at a later time.

As you probably guessed there is NOT any plans for an Al Pepiak signature model.

I think I covered it all. The fan club gets the inside information. It's late, I'm tired, I'm going to sleep.

Cool news, Al. Did they tell you whether the Glen Campbell six string reissues will be styled after the Deluxe Balladeer or Artist version?

Al, hope your day in hospital is the last time for a while. Looks like I now have a bit of time to replenish the OFC fund after my recent buying spree ... whew! Looking forward to hearing about possible changes to the OFC guitar.

The new preamp sounds like a page from the Aura book ... but sounds really cool. I wonder if there will be user presents to dial in your own signature sound?

Hello Al,
Thank's for the input !!

Just two questions :
1) if the Preamp VIP switch off the piezzo, how could you capt the sound ?

2) have you some info about the head, the type of epaulet and the frets connexion (slothead/no slothead ; Adamas epaulet/"hole" epaulet ; 12 fret/14 fret) (I refer to the two prototypes shown during last Factory tour) ?

Thank's !

first off it was not my health this time. But the good vibes will be passed along.

To answer some questions to the best of my knowledge.
the piezo is never turned off. it is just blended with the processor

dude I have no clue what you 2nd question refers to.

stonebobo
give that man a cigar!

jeff I am not sure. Some of us played prototypes at the fan club event.

An important fact I forgot to note late last night.

Some of you have ordered custom Ovation guitars. There has never been anything to distingush that guitar from a stock production model. Well, upon my suggestion, (yes on occasion my input means something rare but sometimes) Rick told me that they are working on making a certificate and it will be included with future custom guitars. I think this is really cool! If you order a custom guitar it will have your name and the specs of the guitar on the certificate. It may play a part in resale value of the instrument and if nothing else you can frame it and hang it in your music room to impress all your friends.
Hamer has done this for a while and it works out really well. I can't wait to see what they come up with for the Ovation/Adamas line.
Remember your voice is heard. The OFC means much to the company. Rick pointed out to me that often in product meetings someone would bring up "What would the fan club think of this". Intelligent discourse about right, wrong and indifferent is absolutely considered.

don't believe me???? you're right, what the hell do I know? I am just an idiot that sells gear for a living...

Al, Thanks for the heads up on this stuff.

1. Does the custom order cerificate apply to guitars already in the pipe line? I'd at least appreciate a letter saying "This was the stupidist f*cking request we ever got, but we did it anyway just for the money."

2. Is the '06 the 14 fret with gay fig leaves on the epaulet (bad idea), or the 12 fret slothead with the blow hole (great idea).

3. Is it true that the Josh and Glen re-issues will come complete with lacquer cracks and need neck resets?

4. What's the status of the cateye Adamas ?

5. What the hell ever happened to Project Q ?

Dave

Al,
Have they given any indication if the GC reissues are going to be limited or will they do a regular production run. since i continuously wish i had my GC12 back and always wanted a GC 6, Naturally my curiosity level is running Higher than usual.
have they released a time frame as to when to expect them, or will we all haveto wait till Namm?

Perhaps you could ship it out to Alaska Fly Guy and and then back to AZ to get that antiqued effect?

Actually, with a hand laid bowl to fit an ANS neck... interesting!

Al,

So this means that I am certifiable? Cool!

Dude's second question has "Which Koa Elite?" written all over it. I still consider the 12 fret slothead "single blow hole" model to be the better choice.
But what do I know? I'm just an idiot that maintains weapons of mass destruction.

Thank you for all of this!

The GC that we saw on the tour was a recreation of the GC Artist, from the early 1980's. Don't know why they didn't do a Deluxe Balladeer except Rick Hall said that he always regretted selling his GC Artist and wanted another one. I think they should have done a GC Deluxe Balladeer, but I loved Rick's answer.

The Josh White recreation was outstanding. I may get one because with a kitchen remolding project going on, I'm pretty certain that I'm out for the OFC. But we'll see.......

Hmmm, I was really hoping they'd go with the 12 fret Koa. I thought the tone was definitely superior to the 14.

Mwoody-It's 10 below ZERO this morning and hasn't gotten above 15 for the past week! You want cracks, just send it on up. I promise to open the case as soon as it gets into the house. I seen finishes just SHATTER. From 10 below Zero to 70 above will do the "Relic" thing for you in a matter of seconds.

I wonder if the OP-studio pre-amp will plug into the OP-pro can???
As I said...the one thing I am missing is a high-end, multi-hole Ovation. I preffered the 12 fret koa also but the 14 did sound nice. Combined with the new pre-amp, it could be the one. But I have to keep my options open in case the OFC special is within reach.

It's been a long time (maybe to long), but Mrs. Slipkid is going to see some jewelry under the tree this year. That might help ...a little ...maybe.

Good luck with the jewelry bribe, Brad. Never worked for me. The last time I tried was when I bought my wife a necklace for our 25th anniversary that conveniently cost the same as the 25 year old Legend that I had repeatedly told my wife I wanted to buy from our neighbor. She gave me the old, "you already have a guitar." That might have been a much cheaper cure for GAS than what I've bought since.

I really like the idea of some kind of sound "shaper" built into the guitar's pre-amp. I have been looking at both the Fishman Aura and the DTar MamaBear.

The Fishman in particular does (or at least claims to do) exactly what you describe: Digitally modify the sound so that it emulates what a listener would hear in front of the guitar.

Do you know if the new Op Pro Studio is digital, or are they shaping the sound using analog circuits?

Cheers!

Jeff

Stone, I think buying the original JW was a great idea. Every serious Ovationist should have a shiny bowl in their collection.

Stonebobbo,
You may remember in the 90s when Porsche came out with the second version of the America Roadster. People paid a premium for a stripped 911. I didn't know at the time what the original was. A couple years ago, I saw one of the originals and thought it was just a poorly restored 356. Found out it was worth about a million. Having an original Josh White might be something like that.
