Location: Parrish, FL | Just in time for the holidays, here are several good reasons why there is a need for more than one guitar. This should help counter the “You can only play one at a time" argument. The reasons are:
1. It is too good of a deal to pass up.
2. It is a good investment. It will appreciate and I’ll always be able to get my money back out of it. (related to #1)
3. It is for your son, daughter, dog, etc. You get the picture.
4. Alternative tunings. Now you won’t have to ‘wear the strings out prematurely’ by constantly changing to E, Drop D, etc.
5. “It’s a different style guitar”. This one is really good because there are so many types of guitars available.
a. Folk
b. 12 Fret
c. 12 String
d. electric/acoustic
e. Other makes (this one is great because the possibilities are nearly endless. Just stop before Tay….Ta..) |

We, however, concluded that, when talking with your wife, logic does not work. Buying a dress because it was 70% off makes sense to her. I hear it from the other side--"What do you need another dress for?"
My wife didn't buy a new dress for the office Christmas party this year, so I don't have any leverage.
Maybe I'm just too conservative with our money. I already have permission to buy an Adamas. The direct quote is, "Why do you have 7 guitars of the same make? At least you could have some variety." My translation: "Why don't you buy an Adamas?" But I really need a red Custom Legend first. Noah tried to help with that, but my wife has other ideas. |

Location: SoCal | Ya know, sometimes we have permission to spend the money and it's just not the right time. Our kitchen remodel went over budget ('natch) and even tho' I'm authorized to buy a FD14, I don't really feel like it's the time.
Of course, I'm once again thinking of selling my Preacher 12 string which should cover the FD14 and then some...... |

Location: Orlando, FL | Moody, I know how it goes. My wife keeps asking me: are you going to get yourself a guitar for christmas? But we're in the middle of some remodeling too, and I know what the budget is.
Part of the reason I have so many guitars is my wife wanted to redecorate my office and putting guitars all over the walls was her idea. Now we're making a home theater and she mentioned it would be cool to have a few guitars on the wall in there!
So my reason is - Hey you started this! |

My wife paid for most of the cabin remodel, which probably cost more than all the Ovations I can think of. There's her money and our money, but this time she spent her money on our cabin.
I don't think I could write a song worth listening to, but I've learned a few that work pretty well. Who else played an Ovation at his or her own wedding? |

As a footnote I am hoping my ME 11 will be with me this week fingers crossed for no transit damage it's come along way !!!!! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Maybe we have some members who have played Ovations at more than one of their own weddings. On the other hand maybe there's a correlation between playing guitar at your wedding and a long successful marriage.
I tried the drop D tuning story the other day, but my wife listened about as well as she does when I talk about football or speak German. That was probably the least effective reason of those listed above. |

The basement...er, lower level (riiiight)...refinish (it was previously finished...don't ask) went about 25% over budget. Today, however, we stopped in to visit the jewelry store I worked at two decades ago. I'm still on speaking terms with the manager, so I still get the employee discount (you have no idea how much this has saved me over the years). My wife decided it'd be nice to 'upgrade' her wedding set. The difference after trade in is, shall we say, approximately three Hamer Korina Juniors (one piece body, vintage natural finish, tortoise pickguard).

Unfortunately for me, I am forced by the first lady to keep my guitar inventory at 4 ... well, it became 5 when my old beloved strat resurfaced, but that's another story. That means, when a new guitar is introduced in the household; I must part ways with another.
Fortunately, I have a very good excuse. :D
Last Thursday in my classroom, one of my children tripped himself over while running from one end of the classroom to the next and accidentally crashed into my applause. To make a long story short, she ended with a really bad broken neck. I think replacing the neck will cost more than the guitar itself, so in this case, I am now free to start shopping for a new guitar. This time, I'm aiming for something bigger and better than my average O and M! :) |

I thought the Legend would complete the set, but I've been lusting after a Folklore or Country Artist lately. Then there's the 1987 and Redwood Collectors. Dave's Thunderhead really had me going, cuz I've always liked the 335 types. Preachers, Deacons and Vipers, too. The most interesting Adamas to me is the U681T, so maybe I'll just start there. |

I don't really feel the need to indulge in that particular "guy thing". - BUT - I have threatened to do so once in awhile, so the guitar thing gets considered fairly normal and/or reasonable. |

I've also used the "don't tell her, just buy it and deal with the anger later" routine, but that only works a couple of times. Now the most effective one is ... I'm interested in a different guitar that will (...) and one of my other ones doesn't (...), but I plan on selling one of my other ones to pay for it.
For those of you who lead or play in the church worship band, I have one that she has never been able to come against. "I'm getting this for the Lord's work." You can't argue with God. However .. I said that to her once and she responded with this question ... "If this guitar is for the Lord's work, then why don't you donate it to the church and leave it there so others can use it?" (OUCH!) After waiting for a moment, I responded with ... " Well honey, that wouldn't be good stewardship, because it would likely get abused and end up worthless to everyone." |

Actually I don't have severe bouts of GAS as I only own a Bass, Electric and one Acoustic. However, I just said to my wife one day....honey, I would really like to get an Adamas sometime. Maybe I will sell my Ovation first. She says..."well, why don't you just get it...it is Christmas after all". Now maybe the new dining room set and hutch, plus new China in the last 90 days had something to do with it, but I don't think so. This is the lady that suggested I buy that new Goldwing I have always dreamed about, so....I think I am just incredibly Blessed.
Eat your hearts out guys!!!!
P.S. I did make a comment about having a backup for Worship at Church in case I broke a strong or something. Well....I have never broken a string on either my Ovation or Carvin, so that may be unlikely...but full disclosure you know. |

My wife not only told me to get a Boxster, she told me what color to get. When I tried out my first 911, she said I should get it because I looked so good in it. That was a long time ago. |

My wife is on the national Porsche Parade committee, so I am forced to go and support her volunteer effort. She dutifully followed me to several and did a lot of work when we had one in Boise in 2002. The Parade Chair is a friend of ours from Boise, too. It's a lot of work to put on a convention, especially when a lot of the participants are a bit spoiled. Most are regular folks, though, and we have made some good friends. San Diego in 2007. |

If it takes more than 10 seconds to explain why - you don't need it!

Location: vienna, west virginia | mark, i am married and the last 4 guitars to come into this house were purchased by my wife... 2 acoustic/electrics for me (a 12 and a 6).. and a bass and electric 6 for our eldest... and she is considering a 1/2 size acoustic for our 3 year old as her next musical gift. currently i have a breadwinner that i bought new in 75, 1969 gibson les paul deluxe gold top, guild f-48, breedlove ac 25 sr+, and a giannini 12 string craviola, the last three being gifts from her. 5 string banjo, dulcimer, 7 native flutes, 3 complete drum kits, (ludwig, rogers and an antique gretsch jazz kit)
3000 watts of carvin pa, one set of altec voice of the theatres, one set of custom made electro-voice sro cabs with altec horns, wireless monitor system/etymotic ear plugs... and last week we walked into a local guitar shop and i saw an older model slot head 12 O, i drooled a bit and she got that look and asked if i really liked it... yes, i feel a bit guilty but i really liked the looks and feel of it... i may have to go back and just look at it for a little while... no harm in looking... eh? and yes, i realize i am spoiled and blessed to have such a woman for my wife. |
