I am fairly new around here. I live in the UK and I have a solitary single Ovation, a Celebrity which I bought maybe three years ago. The guitar is in absolutely excellent condition; the guy I got it from told me he only bought it for a bit of session work and he never played it otherwise because he was a Strat. man!
I joined up because I had an urge to find out a little bit more about my guitar and also to learn a bit about about Ovations generally. I think my Celebrity is a reasonably early Korean example, it is a Model CC57 in what I believe is Tobaccoburst; the serial number is 191966.
I do have a stupid question, does the pre-amp (two circular knobs, volume and tone) have a battery? I have only played the guitar acoustically around the house and even that not nearly as well as I would like!
I will probably be a very infrequent poster (I have very little expertise to share) but will drop in from time to time if only to drool at models such as the 2009 Collector.
All the best, Normski. |

NORM!
Hey, welcome. You may think now that you'll be an infrequent posted, but this little club will grow on you.
I've been trying to find, in old literature, the Celebrity CC57 and haven't so far. Undoubtedly, others here will know more about it than me. Is it a centerhold Ovation or a multihole?
There should be a battery in the guitar. When you're playing the guitar and you look down at the knobs, just to the left of them there should be a large plastic screw. That holds the battery box to the guitar body. If your guitar is a center hole guitar, loosen the strings (or take them off) reach in side the guitar where the screw is and you'll find the battery. Turn the screw about a quarter turn and the box will come out. Slide off the cover and there's the 9 volt battery.
If it's a mult hole Ovation, then there's a hatch on the back of the bowl. Take that off and it's the same proceedure.
It can be a bit of a pain getting the battery box back in. There's a reason they don't use those anymore. |

Welcome!
BTW, there is no inherent sin in ignorance. Satisfy your curiosity. |

A friend told me tonight that there have been some posts on your site about the fact that Jim Croce and my brother Maury Muehleisen played Ovations. Just joined your group and hope to visit from time to time and get to know the ropes, or should I say "strings," before long. |

Do you play? |

If you could share any lore about Maury's Ovations, I'm sure we'd love to hear it. We've heard the story of how Jim's Legend survived and is at Ingrid's restaurant in San Diego, but I've never seen anything about Maury's Ovations, other than seeing video of him playing one. |
