I am starting a little "project" and I am in need of any possible information that anyone has on the ACADEMY guitars. Spec sheets, photos, catalog, personal recollections, experiences, etc. I realize there is not a lot of documented history about this little orphan model (hence my project). Please send me anything you may have.

You collectors are a whole different breed.

Not that an Academy wouldn't be a wonderful find. But the obsession is a little......ooooo! look at that note!

. . . "Even after a month of being pinned to the top of the most informative Ovation guitar site in the world, this guitar is so rarely seen, there is little information on it" . . . .

Dave,
I'll be interested to read your info. I have a KA-14 ..Light Blue. I've been trying to find out what kind of case they originally came with.

No. Appears there are two types of necks on the Academy. One is the same as (or very close to) the Matrix neck with aluminum fretboard. The other is a celeb. style (nato?) one piece wood neck with rosewood fretboard. Or as one of my advisors said "Maybe Academy guitars are like snowflakes - no two are the same". I can't give away too much info now or you won't buy the book.

Yeah, I saw that. This is the aluminum fretboard model. Interesting in that some of these are 14 fret and some 12 fret necks. The sound really is amazing for what these are made of. Dave

I don't know Cliff, some people say SO much that it all just turns into a blur.

Personal opinion, a super shallow Academy with OP-Pro electronics would be a really cool gigging guitar.

I just bid as much as I dared and it didn't make the top. It looks like it's in pretty good shape. Very similar to my Matrix.

nope. one is a 12 with adjustable bridge 1 7/8 nut. the other is a 14 fretter with non adjustable bridge and 1 11/16 at the nut. the 14 fretter is identical to a black matrix neck. that one has a cracked top.

i bought both of them from the same seller. one on ebay and the other privetly....ive got about $75.00 in both. interesting wall hangers. jason
