Location: Williston Park, NY | I have a Custom Ballader 12 string 1655(the only Ovation I currently have) that I happen to think is the best sounding 12 string I've ever heard. Bright chimey bell-like highs and nice tight bass when I need it. I also love it because it is built like a tank -- no need to detune it.
I'm seeing a lot of folks here prefer Adamas or Elite 12 strings, and I'm wondering can the sound be that much more awesome than my deep bowl 1655?
If so, how? More Bass? Nicer chime? Bigger Blast? This inquiring mind wants to know!
I could ask the kid in GC with the spider web tattoo on his neck to climb up and get one down for me to hear for myself but
1. I'd rather ask the experts here, and
2. I'm afraid to :D
Thanks, Tom |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | My Adamas Melissa Etheridge 12-string is the finest 12-string I've ever heard, bar none. The carbon-fiber/birch top projects a nice, balanced, complex sound.
LX-series 12-strings are pretty darn good, too.
I'd say complexity of sound is probably the advantage of the Adamas. Depends on what you want. YMMV.

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | I had a Balladeer 12, mid-bowl. Great guitar. When the LX series hit, I bought a 6756LX Legend 12. I love this guitar, because of the louder sound produced on a lighter body. Also the neck action is a bit more refined, than the Balladeer. If I picked up your 1655 12 string, and gave it a strum. I might say wow, this is the best sounding 12 string I played. It's all in the eye and ear of the beholder. |

BTW - I re-read my post - When I said my 12 was the best I've ever heard, I didn't mean to imply that mine was the best that ever was -- just the best I've ever played. And that universe does not contain the ones I was asking about.
Thanks all for the input.

I've played an Adamas I 12 strings for about 10 years and have never played anything finer. But the first time I played a Legend LX 12, my first thought was "If I didn't have Big Blue (my A 12), I'd have to get one of these pronto". They are that good. |

Worse, though, was when news filtered through to the rest of the guitar collection - three of them sulked and refused to be played, two acted as if everything was normal, but were in clear denial, and only the Uke would produce anything like a tune for four weeks.
Hell hath no fury like a guitar scorned...
