Location: SoCal | John, go with the redesigned 2 knobber preamp. You'll have a sound to match anything else out there (keep in mind that the original preamp in your guitar is a 30 year old design). You'll be very happy with the sound you get from the redesigned 2 knobber.
The stacked preamp in my GC reissue is a redesign of the original, but better. Plugged in it is incredible.... much better than any other guitar I own. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | IF it was me ... I'd leave the 2 knobs for looks and put in the FD14 electronics. That's exactly what's on Jerome's Adamas II Slothead and whoever decided to make it that way was very wise.

However, maybe I missed something...why would someone cut into the bowl, etc., when there are OP-24 (or newer) pre-amp guitars? |

Location: SoCal | I learned a lesson on this guitar...I was prepared to make a decent bid on the guitar but backed off due to an OFC'er bidding. Now, there is a question whether it will be sold and/or modified.
So, maybe this is why I have taken my position in this thread.
I just see something wrong in taking a 2-knobber and cutting...I have a 1990 1681 (OP-24) that I would upgrade if I needed but I wouldn't do it to one of my 2-knobbers. Just doesn't seem right. As I wouldn't cut into the 1537. And, as there is a collectibility element to a 2-knobber, unless you were going to keep it, it would probably reduce the value.
Need a better pre-amp? Sell the 2-knobber and get one with a newer pre-amp. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I've played out with it 2 times now and as-is it blows everyone else away! I have no complaints with this preamp (I WOULD like a tuner). I just wanted to hear from you old Adamas owners to get your opinion.
The idea of getting the new 2-knob electronics sounds like a good idea. Time to email Kim. Thanks everyone.
PS- Tony, I've fallen in love with this guitar (as has everyone who's seen it) and I'm sure I MUST keep her. I was looking for YOUR opinion and it has solidified my own. Thank you.

The new preamps are $300. They are better than the old preamps, but unless your pramp is completely dead, um...well...they are $300!!
Since I barely escaped with my life on this purchase..think I'll wait. |
