Picked my daughter up a Roland Handsonic10 and she took to laying out a great tempo.
Took turns playing some of her music with some of mine.
It was one of the best night's I can recall spending with her :D (they grow up soooooo fast). |

Location: big island | for about $12.00 each, those little ukes are standard soprano size and hold a tune quite well. although my kids have never seen Quick Draw McGraw cartoons, they will still "El Ca-bong" each other (and me) once in a while. |

Great pic.
I played around with one of those Roland drum pads at the local GC. I thought the were pretty cool. |

Location: GA USA | Awesome, guys. My 17 yr. old son and I are planning to learn slide guitar together (which means I'll get left in the dust). I'm excited about that.
Randy, I almost bought one of those in Kona to go on the mantle next to my llama guitar from Peru. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My daughters didn't have any interest in guitar until they went to college. The oldest hasn't kept up too much, but the youngest is a skilled musician and got way better than me after about a year. We had to leave the NW OFC gathering early to go do a duet for my mom. She made the 2007 calendar. I have a couple pics of us with guitars in my gallery. |

Location: Waurika OK | My son used to play bass in our group. This was when he was in high school. It was a lot of fun. He is 40 now and doesn't play bass anymore, but did buy an Ovation a couple of years ago and traded me out of my Hamer P90 gold top import.
I wish he lived close enough that we could jam a couple of times a week.
My grandson, who lives here in town, is taking lessons and we have played some together, he just needs to practice more. He does have the main theme of Smoke on the Water down. And I have taught him the basic blues shuffle in E and A. Hmmm, Maybe I need to practice more. |

It's one of my favorite home videos. there's a couple cool commercials with the same theme that run during sesame street's air time: one of them shows a garden hose with a sprinkler head that eventually takes off like a helicopter. the other is a kid sitting on the kitchen floor with wooden spoons banging on all the pots and pans he could find. the audio track is overdubbed
to make him sound like gene krupa or ginger baker. in both commercials the tag line is:
"It's all how you look at it."
oh, to have the heart of a child again! that's what the kingdom of God is all about. |

Location: Utah | Yeah, there's nothing like playing with the kids! I was up late Sunday night teaching my 14 yr old "Stairway". It's hard to find good music for guitar, violin, and flute, but we've been improvising. I just wish the kids would be available more often for music nights. |

Location: Houston, Texas | We got all these guys in Hawaii, and all we get are pictures of their kids and their living rooms. Jeesh! :D
But I'm sure it's more fun playing music with your kids than snapping pics of bikinis on the beach. It's amazing how people can get jaded with anything after a while. :D |

Location: Tidal Mudflats of Virginia | I've said it a hundred times, it's not as much of an island paradise when you live here and your sharing it with a million tourist a day, multiple traffic jams and inflated prices. :( I easily understand why the Hawaiians keep Ni'ihau to themselves.
I'll take the backroads of Virginia or Mississippi anytime and twice on Sunday. |

Location: Houston, Texas | I started to reply about that but I think I've hijacked this thread enough. Besides I don't really feel like a rant tonight. I don't care much for the government's no questions asked policies when it comes to handing out financial and medical assistance though.
You've got some cute kids there. I'm sure they just can't wait to get big enough to play the Ovations! |

one of the big island's main attractions is, of course, the active volcano at kilauea on the slope of mauna loa. also we have the observatories on top of mauna kea that have the world's clearest view of the stars, if you are into things of a celestial nature. hilo side, where i live, is not known for its beaches. this is the newer side and close to the current volcanic activity. the shores on this side are quite full of lava rock and reef. the best beaches are on the west side where kona and waikaloa are, about two hours drive from hilo.
keep me posted if and when you folks plan your trip here. |

I've also been to the tops of a lot of other mountains, but never went from sea level in shorts and a t-shirt to cold and almost snowy in one short drive. Bring some warmer clothes if you want to spend any time at the top. Saw a lot of people biking down, but not too many biking up. |
