Location: Sunshine State, Australia | Just finished watching a video of the Eagles farewell concert in Melbourne last year and was somewhat surprised to see Glen Frey playing a Takamine acoustic.
Sure, Taks are a fine 'middlin' guitar, but I would've half expected that these guys would've been throwin around something a tad more expensive/exotic.
Maybe Taks are more than just 'middlin' these days. |

| They use him in their advertising so I'm guessing they pay him a whole bunch of money.
I think Taks are really good guitars - more than good enought to strum the chords to Hotel California. JeffW's Hirade classical is a beautiful guitar.
Tak's have a good rep for quality as well.
And I think they are part of the Kaman Empire, so it's almost in the family. |

They use Taks cause they work.
If you got to plug in a square guitar, Taks have one of the better electric systems. Good consistant stage sound, that's what the Eagles were going after. |

A friend of mine has a koa Tak that was once custom-built for Steve Wariner(?). Fit/finish/playability/sound of that thing is just gorgeous!
Beal's got one the new Tak OM's that he debuted some of his original compositions on last NewYear's. It's a really nice, comfortable small-bodied guitar that sounds really good. Jeanette's got some pics somewhere in the camera that I'll try t'post.
Much like Ovations, y'get a lotta guitar for the money with these.
I'f I were to buy a wood-box guitar (especially for gigging), I'd take a Tak over a Taylor ANY day . . . |

Location: Williston Park, NY | I've read that Springsteen likes to record on his vintage Gibsons, but when he goes out on tour he uses brand new Taks which he donates at the end of the tour.
Starts all over again on the next tour. I've never been compelled to see the guy live so I don't know for sure. |

Location: Tennessee | When I saw Springsteen live last year, he used a Gibson jumbo for most of the night. No Tak used at all. But one of the band members used an Ovation mandolin on a couple of tunes. |

He used the Gibson because the Tak would've clashed with the whole pseudo-WoodyGuthrie affect that he was going for . . . |

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | Cliff brings out a good point. Image and effect, is so important, with the choice of guitars. I remember Jorma Kaukonen's, "Blue Country heart" album a few years ago, he used an old Gibson, from the company's vault. The album consisted of early roots tunes, and he toured with vintage gibson jumbos.
I think Takamine produces a good guitar. They actually took the Acoustic/Electric concept, one step further, beck in the 70's, with their electronics. For awhile, they were everywhere. |

Location: Kilmarnock,Scotland | I tried a Takamine AN16 acoustic the other day.fit and finish was spot on,it was beautiful sounding and the intonation (with and without my trusty capo)was flawless all the way up the neck.in the same store I tried Taylor and Martin dreadnoughts (costlier than the Tak but low down in their own ranges) and the AN16 was far superior imho.No electrics on the ANs but thats what I'm wanting next anyway.
I'm not so sure about the G and EG series Taks - they're not the same as the Japanese ones in feel or quality and they mostly look like APXs which I'm not a fan of either.

Location: Cicero, NY | I just sold an EAN10C (with electronics) that I thought was a great guitar for the money. I thought I would never get rid of it until I played a 1537 and decided that I had to have one of those instead. I'd buy another Tak, and specifically that cedar topped model I had before, any day. |
