Location: ranson, wva | ive played my folklore thru a valve jr. head & marshal cab at G.C and it sounded pretty good. ive got 5 or 6 different cabs in the shop so the eppi. head would be a good value. im either gonna get a small tube amp or fender acoustic stereo head....jason |

I had a lot of help from Charlie (thanks again buddy!), but managed to live through the experience. I highly recommend the experience. |

You need something capable of producing an acoustic guitars entire frequency range without distortion and low-powered tube amps ain't it. You need a dedicated acoustic amplifier or a full-range powered PA speaker plus a mixer. |

Location: SE Michigan | Diddo what Paul said about playing an acoustic through a low wattage tube amp. That being said, for electric guitar I picked up a Fender Blues Junior.
It is the perfect size for my needs. The 15 watts lets you get nice tone without making your ears bleed, but it still has ample power for a small band-practice setting. Unlike some of the other low end valve amps the Blues Junior has master volume and halfway decent reverb unit, that and a respectable 12 inch speaker..
So far I am please with it and highly recommend it, I think they are running about $399 at MF. |

Templeman and Jeff W have the amp and I have the head. I am sure there are others.
Another one (and my current fav) is the VOX DA5. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | There are a load of mods that can be done to the EVJ. I have the combo, but the head version is more versatile. I've done some of the mods and they add a lot of gain, crunch, etc. It needs better tubes also. Even if you don't want to mess around with changing resistors/caps on the board, a new set of tubes will do a lot. Fron what I've read, a twin speaker cab, either 10's or 12's, is the way to go. The amp sure is cheap enough - $99 + $30 for the tubes (JJ's from eurotubes.com). |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Take a look at this 200+ page thread for modding the EVJ on 18watt.com . I did most, but not all of the "silver mods." The biggest gain increase comes from doing the R1, R2 and R6 mods. This thread has had over 177,000 views!! |

That Carr stuff looks like the ticket, but it's WAY out of my range...phil |

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Pro-Junior-Combo-Amp?...
I think you might want to add these pedals:
Digiverb
MXR Phaser 90
Digitech Bad Monkey
Digitech MultiChorus or Small Clone |

Location: Houston, Texas | That's the 10" little brother to the 12" Blues Jr.
It appears that currently the asking price is $299 for the Pro-Jr. and $399 for the Blues Jr.
I bought a Blues Jr. about four years ago when the asking price was about $369. It was a floor model but I tested it thoroughly and walked out the door with it for $315 tax included from GC.
I eventually upgraded the stock Emminence speaker with a Celestion but its a great sounding little amp. The only complaint I have is that it can't really do a nice Fender clean tone.
I ended up buying a 2005 Pro Tube Series Twin Amp (25/100 watts)on ebay for a little over $700 and won't ever sell it, but it's a pain to transport at 85 lbs.
I've been jamming with a couple of guys several times a week lately and I always take the Blues jr., and even though it has to compete with a 45 watt Mesa and a 65 watt Crate, both fully tube driven, it handles it easily and has received alot of compliments.
The only pedal I usually use besides a tuner, is a Robert Keeley Compressor which is about the best pedal compressor out there and it really helps the tone.
Tube amps can be kind of quarky so it pays to study a little about them on the internet. |

Location: Taiwan | I've been lookin' at both the Blues Jr. and the Pro Jr. (for my strat) and am intrigued by both. Wading through many threads at the Fender site has helped me understand the two a bit, but much of the talk is beyond me, with references to other amps and terms I don't know. (I'm new to this.)
I wouldn't call the Pro Jr. the "little brother" to the Blues Jr. on that particular website unless you want an earfull from the Pro Jr. owners! And in actuality, they are of very different design. Both seem very well loved by their owners, but the differences appearently go well beyond the 2" speaker difference, reverb, and master volume knob.
My concern with the Pro Jr. is whether I can get good sound out of it at very low volume levels. That's how I'll mostly use it. Any comments appreciated.

I want to second all the positive comments about the EVJ. That is just the coolest setup. For a living room practice amp, it is perfect.
I am helping out the teen praise band that my daughter is in. I lugged my Peavey Classic 50 to practice this Tuesday. The guys there were drooling over it*. Funny thing is, I was drooling over their lightweight practice amps that came with their beginner-combo guitar kits. For day to day use, those things are a lot easier to manage!
* and yes, I couldn't resist the temptation to shake the walls a bit. That thing absolutely kicks ass. |

It has effects, can run on batteries or AC, has a pretty powerful 5 watts that can be adjusted down in increments all the way to 1/2 watt. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | well i went and did it! I ended up buying three amps altogether; epi VJr head, crate 30w retrofex, and a 15w Line6 spiderII for my daughter. Spent less than $400 for all of it, also picked up a beat to kingdom-come peavy 2/12 cab for $60 and the speakers were in great condition.
this should keep me busy in my budget seach for THE vintage clean and blues tones!!!
comments welcome on the above gear, btw I'm having lots of fun!!! phil |
