It may very well be happening behind the scenes, but as a potential buyer, I'm still awaiting an official PM regarding the final details and the requirements necessary to place an order. The last PM received indicated that the final details had not yet been sorted out. Just speculation, but I suspect this may have more to do with the OFC sale package than the guitar itself. |

And i hope this is not going to be one of those "board politics" issues dealing with what Al can and cannot post on his own freaking forum. This is the OFC guitar for crying out loud. If we can't discuss this openly on the OFC forum then it is a sure sign the PC police have finally moved us to the brink.
Sigh

gh1 Greg, I think you hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't count on an open discussion. This is no longer a forum where you can learn about all the custom and/or collectable guitars to be had. Als or otherwise. Sad but true.
I'd say if you are in the market for one of these guitars, you'd better initiate the conversation with Al yourself. He's always been very responsive to me when I've asked him the types of questions asked above. |

I'm just banking some chits so that when she sees yet another new guitar hanging in the studio, she won't be too quick to criticize my own selfish indulgence. |

On second thought, the minute my wife saw another expensive toy in the house she would throw me and YOUR guitar out the door onto the lawn. |

The new texture goes up this weekend followed by not yet selected paint (there will be no less than three layers applied over a base color to provide just the right faux "look" of an Italian whatever). You'd best not offer any assistance unless you're serious. Personally, I told her that I thought what the bedroom really needed was to replace some of the candles and artwork with a few neon guitar signs. That was met with a look of complete disdain followed by about six hours of silence. You'd think I'd learn. |

I did the new carpet trade last year that should have covered the OFC guitar, but that might have been before the Ute and the 30th Anniversary CL. I need to keep better records. My wife really wants a new house and we don't need the room we have, but all the smaller houses she looks at cost more than what ours is worth. If we downsize, I'll probably lose the guitar room and a big garage. I'm running out of stuff to trade. |

All I need is that you let me keep mine at your new house and use my old garage once in awhile. And I might have to stay in the guest room for a few years after my wife kicks me out of the trailer. |

When did that happen?
If I have the "green," am I going to be able to get one of these, if I so desire one?

For the LONGEST time (until I got my "Edumacation" HERE), I'd been lead to believe that my guitar was #20 of 24 . . .
The "Ute-12" pics WERE posted.
The "back of the headstock" shot was placed at the bottom as a "tease". . . |

the Fan Club guitar is here and they are in the works. Essentially it has the same specs as the #47 RI but has been spec'ed to the original -8 blue and has the stereo 2 knob elelctronics.
I am very jaded when it comes to instruments, I own a pile of personal ones and I also see many go through my hands on a weekly basis. I have to tell you that this guitas is exquisite. the attention to detail is unsurpassed. Right out of the box it is one of the most comfortable playing guitars that I have owned and it is very consistent up and down the fingerboard. The sound BOOMS out of it and loud is an understatment. Plugged in, the new 2 knob electronics are far superior to the original. I can honestly say that these guitars sound better than the original 47.
Here are some pics. They are not too great because it is 20 degrees outside I and I can't take any natural light pictures. I should really be in bed trying to shake this cold but that is another story. ... The center looks a little darker than it actually is. Believe me pictures do not do it justice, you just can't take flash pics of an instrument that has sparkle on the finish.
each guitar will be numbered on the back of the headstock
Each guitar will come with a certificate and label signed by Bill Kaman.
There is also a laser vibrometer readout that is included with each guitar so you can check out how the top on YOUR guitar stands up to others.
Each guitar will come with a custom carbon fiber case. This has been the problem with the announcement for this guitar I have been waiting on the confirmation for this case. The case is very cool and also the most expensive guitar case I have ever come across. I am sure when you see it, you will agree, it is the coolest thing.
Each guitar will come with a PILE of extras. It is my way of making this guitar as apecial as possible. It has taken almost 2 1/2 years for this guitar to come into being and I cannot tell you the countless hours and time that it took to make it happen. But it is here and I guarantee it will not dissppoint.
A list of the extras at this point. Not exclusive to and not limited to. It may change as other items are included or listed items excluded.
axe jacket
carbon fiber case
and case cover (pending finding one that fits)
access bag
g band
kyser blue capo
copy of Ovation DVD other voices
copy of Fidelco LP ($20 donation to Fidelco)
OFC strap from long hollow leather
OFC pick holder key ring
OFC picks
Ovation picks
Adamas graphite picks
collectible Ovation key ring from the 70's 80's
Ovation airlocks
Ovation shaped air fresheners
Hercules guitar stand
guitar foot rest
Adamas strings
Monster cable
coricidin bottle slide
metal slide
peg winder
polishing cloth
ofc pen ofc
luggage tag
I am working on getting Long Hollow leather to make each guitar have an individual luggage take with the owner's name, the OFC logo and the number of your guitar. In my case 1/12
12 guitars have been ordered. you can get it with an 1 3/4 neck but not a 1 7/8 currently the tooling does not exist to do that. (additional $375 upcharge)
Although I have ordered 12 gutiars more can be added they just will not be numbered from the original 12. The will still include all the case candy certificates and extras.
Give me a day to crunch final numbers (I am really suppose to be in bed) then e mail or call and I will give you the final costs etc. First 12 well 11 to respond gets one of the first 12.
I really want to thank all of you who participate on this board. It has been a dream of mine to come up with a really special guitar and believe me we have. The list price is $6000.
more information to follow.
thanks for being so patient. These guitars are expected in the next few months. |

I'm certainly tempted but having bought a #47 RI and 30th Ann. 1687 last year I'm finding it hard to think up a believable story to tell the boss why I "need" it.

That is one of the advantages of giving her everything she wants, never letting her see the bank statement, and ensuring that she is sufficiently preoccupied with her own interests so as to minimize the chance of her making a surprise visit to the band room. I also know how to use smoke and mirrors to disguise what she sees and to confuse her on the off chance that she might recognize something new. I also plan to use well rehearsed lies and deception. If all else fails, I'll get on my knees and beg forgiveness, then send her out shopping, just like I've done for the past 17 years. |

She budgets, pays bills, and runs the house, besides working about half time. I'd probably never do any of that stuff. I would be a lot thinner because I wouldn't cook for myself. Works for me. |

I did not see the OFC on the guitar is the photo. Sorry if this is info you have already mentioned. Those old threads are to hard to try and decipher.
Thanks, Nice job man! Never tought I'd see the factory build one of these slotheads like they have with the #47 and now with this one.

Unfortunately, even if I'll be so happy to have one, I can't afford it and I sincerely regret it... :(
It will stay in O's legend as a pure master piece.
Thanks Al.

I assume the 12th fret is where the OFC logo would ultimately go. |

Al, what is an "axe jacket" and "access bag"? axe jacket is a cover so that if you wish to display your guitar on a stand you can put the cover over it and keep dust off the guitar.
the access bag is a really cool roadie bag that has what seems like endless pockets so that you can store all types of gadgets strings mics cables etc. |

At least, every guitar I take out - if # 003 or the ol' GC goes to a get-together and sits on a stand, it should have one of these. I forgot to bring it the last time we got together (course, not being covered encouraged more people to try the guitars).
You will definitely value it for the OFC guitar. |

If the plan holds to form, this will leave me with a #47RI, an OFC Guitar, an FD14, and my twin baritones as my only 6-string Ovations.
Not too bad of company!
Having wood tops in Colorado is just a pain in the ass and while I can manage 3-4 of them, anymore and they have to go into another room or storage and then I have to consitently worry about humidity issues. |

My guess would be the same kind of idiot that wants a 47 and an OFC...

Of course. Since the electronics don't interest me, the wide neck is the justification!
I have sent an email to Al so we will see if this has a happy ending. |

This couple supersedes some of my other guitars. I sold the Collector's 1982, FD14 and (if I will have the heart to do it) will sell my blue Adamas I.

1-7/8 = Magnum I like your reasoning. Gibson's 335 neck (at least on mine) is 1-5/8", and the A neck on the Jag is 1-9/16", so you'll need two more downward gradations. Since most necks are 1-11/16", how about this?
1-9/16" = Ultra slim
1-5/8" = Slim
1-11/16" = Standard or regular
1-3/4" = Wide
1-7/8" = Magnum
I also measured and compared the circumference of all my guitars at the first, fifth and 12th frets some months ago. The results were telling, although I can't seem to find them at the moment. The rumors about Ovation neck comfort appears to be documented in the measurements. They are very similar to most of the electrics. |

I know people think West Virginia is remote, but it really isn't. It's kind of like having a neighbor who has a swimming pool that you can use. Almost all the advantages without the headaches.
I will be happy to let anyone play mine once I get it, but I don't think I'll let it leave my sight at least for awhile. Sort of like having to watch the neighbor's kids when they come over to use your pool. (I guess I'm in one of my rare glass is half full periods.) |

Al didn't ask, but I told him I didn't want the wide neck and he said he was relieved. I didn't want to push my luck with SWMBO by telling her to add to the bill. I figured that Stephen was the last fence straddler, but my wife told me I could have it for my birthday (April 11) and I didn't want the window of opportunity to close. She actually thought I had already ordered it and trashed Al's email in which he told me there was one left. I had some late night birthday shopping. |

Stephen, for the record I will post here exactly what I informed you re: the OFC guitar. The initial set of 12 numbered OFC packages are sold out. I will be happy to take orders for additional OFC-type packages that will not be numbered. I will be happy to order one in a standard neck or wide neck version for you, or anyone else who is interested |

Apparently, you feel the need to get in the last word and won't let it go.
For the record, should we also discuss the guitar I requested that you "refused to sell me"?
Your perogative but if you want to publicly open a potential can of worms, I have the opener.
