Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | It's been a great week luck-wise; which, when you're dealing with a truly debilitating case of G.A.S., means it's been a tough week wallet-wise! With all due respect to Tim Chapman, I couldn't pass this one up. $750 seemed like a great price. It's supposed to ship today.

Yesterday, I purchased a used MM-68 Mandolin for $500 with a hardshell case. It's half-way here and should show up on Monday!
the problem is this: They better get here quick, because I can't get over this G.A.S. until I'm playing something different! I swear, I've been stalking Ebay, Craig's List, and just about any used instrument ad on the web for a couple of weeks now. I've got a seriously itchy trigger finger and a hankering for a nylon-string guitar to stick its head out of some saloon! Would somebody please shoot me out of the saddle before my wife sees our bank balance?! |

gh1, wish I could, but shallow bowl isn't my thing. Tried one for a while, but I play too much acoustic. Thanks though.
Woody! Maybe I'm being a little thick here but..Umm...What's a Papoose Koa? |

"The way-ting is the hardest part!"
I am not-so-patiently waiting for a phony-SG. I really need to quit checking the Fed Ex Track thingie.
I might advise the same for you, but it wouldn't do any good. |

Well...maybe if it was Bushmill's Single Malt. ;) |

I've got 25 this April. At that point there should be a renewal option that could or could not be signed WITHOUT PENALTY. (as if!!!)
Now back to our regularly scheduled digressions. |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | BAD NEWS! The temperature troll has struck again. This morning I only had a minute to glance at the mandolin, but after work today, I got a close look. A crack has appeared just below the bridge running for about 3/4 inch at a 45 degree angle. But even more disturbing, the spruce top has developed waves! There are ripples across the entire lower bout that seem to correspond to the bracing underneath. In the right light, they are easy to see, and you can feel them as you run your finger across the wood. Has anyone seen this before?
I spoke with the dealer who sent it. He says the mando was in great shape when they sent it and will make an insurance claim with UPS immediately. Hopefully things will work out. If anyone has any idea about what kind of repairs I'm facing, I'd love to hear them. Wish me luck folks. I have two more instruments being shipped right now, and I'm bidding on another as we speak (type, whatever)! :( |

I was told not to worry, it's attributable to the thin spruce that makes up the top. It shouldn't pose any structural issues whatsoever.
As for the lacquer crack, it may have been there pre-shipping but not noticed by the dealer. These are the bane of Ovation instruments, but do not affect the structural integrity or sound. If it was me, I'd just live with it. You got a great deal already, if you get a little compensation, all the better.
Just my dos pesos. |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | UPDATE:
There's a guardian angel that followed my 2001 Collectors from AL to NY! It got here today after being delayed by the winter storm that hit the NE. I picked the box up and heard a loud THUNK! The shipper had put the guitar in its case and put the case in a 2 X 2 X 5 box without any packing whatsoever! Every side and corner was caved in!! I was half thinking that waiting an hour or so for the case to warm was wasted effort; the thing was probably beaten into pieces! :(
BUT...
Even though the case showed it had taken the beating (scuffs and scratches everywhere), when I finally opened it, that beautiful figured redwood just sat me back on my heals! Cosmetically, it was flawless! I got it home and put fresh Elixirs on after dinner and within minutes was wearing the smuggest most satisfied grin anyone could manage. :D What wonderful, balanced, tone! This one's a keeper. No Doubt! |

Now back to our regularly scheduled digressions. Congrats on the 25 years, Bill.
We got married in Jamaica and they screwed up my (uh) wife's name on the certificate. She tried to renew her passport this week and they told her, "No can do, that ain't you." I've been telling her for years that the typo, coupled with neither of us having signed it, means we're not legally married, which means she doesn't legally exist. I wonder how badly she wants that passport renewed...

Location: Boise, Idaho | That one's easy. You get a 1537 anytime to celebrate the year of your marriage--1983. Then next year you get a 25th anniversary or any other anniversary model. Come up with some connection to 1987. If you can make it to 30 you have all sorts of choices. My wife got me the 30th Anniversary Custom Legend for ours (next August). I didn't tell her the Ute was a 30th Anniversary edition, too. I think I'm going to have to adopt some kids or come up with another system. |

Congrats Patch!
While I am more a fan of the round soundhole model of the 2001 Collector's, this is the most beautiful bookmatched top i have seen on a 2001 - with the one with epaulettes on Jerome's page. http://www.ovationtribute.com/Acoustic%20Series/Collector%27s/2001%...
Really nice guitar!

'87 is easy. Our daughter was born that year.
I'll see if I can get the program goin'! Wish me luck! :)
