Location: Wheeling, WV | pardon me for asking, but i'm always wanting to say "thx ovation guys" or "hey you guys", but i dont want to be Ovationally incorrect.....are there any women in the club??? i've only seen threads from the guys so far. i'm sure there are female members, but if not, i think we oughtta round up melissa etheridge and nancy wilson as members. i lost count of how many times i've seen Heart, after 15, and Nancy always sends me home wondering "how can i let a woman show me up like that?" she has amazing technique and moves. in her earlier days i've seen her play lots of O's. any other Heart or Lovemonger fans in the club?????? I remember reading an article in GP when they were in their heyday, in which Nancy Wilson said she pretty much stayed in the shadows as she didn't play as well as the guys. I've since heard her play. She either has gotten a whole lot better or was downplaying her talent in that interview. |

I'm a regular on the board; read almost every day, but don't post a lot--maybe once a week or so. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, "I'd rather keep my mouth closed and be thought a fool than open my mouth and confirm it." ;)

Location: Phoenix AZ | I have to share a funny observation. I've got a group of guy friends around the neighborhood. Surprisingly none of them play guitars. But we go mountain biking together, go to football games, share some beers. All that typical guy stuff and we're all brazen and macho as hell when we're together and talk all kinds of guy smack. But then every so often we'll have a neighborhood family picnic or something including the wives. And sure as hell, the guys will all cower and huddle in the corner of the yard like little puppies afraid to make any eye contact with our wives. We talk in whispers and jump at the slightest oppotunity to help out the wives in any way we can. It's the funniest freaking thing you've ever seen. Of course we never admit or discuss it afterwards. Doubt you'll see Nancy or Ann play Ovation onstage anymore....Nancy seems to have gone to Takamine or Martin, and Ann has gone to Rainsong. Nancy does have a couple of Ovations in her composing room, though, and Ann has a pair of Ovation 12-strings.

The women probably have Real Lives. Y'know? Remember...
OR They just sit back (like Karen) and watch the boys be silly. Which is good. Cuz if the dudes knew that the chicks were watching, they would be really silly then. |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | "Jewel" is my Custom Elite 868 LX; she really is the jewel of my stable. Her name is based on a verse of Scripture. All of my herd have names; they seem more personable that way. An upside is I never need to worry if I've forgotten which model prefix goes with whom, and my friends know them by name.
(I have also been known to name other people's guitars, too--just ask Robbie.)

I've done it, and I am nowhere close to being a woman, nor do I have any desire to be one (No offense to women, I think they are the best thing God ever made). I don't think naming guitars is necessarily a woman thing. (It may be a little wierd though)(: |

That's because they're all exchanging ideas of how to get another guitar in the house. |

But then again, my Mom is female... Which also proves Mark's observations. |

Me - NO! |

I've been playin since the 70's, have somethin'-teen guitars, and I havent had the urge to name one yet, although sometimes i do treat them like real people. I guess I do refer to them with the same adjectives sometimes.....the "trusty ole Strat", the "workhorse Les Paul", more utilitarian I guess........anyway, Who named Clapton's Strat Blackie, him or the fans???? anyone know??? |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I've named mine and even gone as far as putting the names on the cases. I guess it's because they're all shaped like women, and each one has it's own special feel, sound and overall personality when they're played. I know this will sound freaky, and someone's gonna pick it up and run with it, but ... When I was stationed overseas I would fall asleep with one of my guitars laying over me, after playing quietly in the dark. I know ... they probably don't even have names for that. (but I'm sure someone here will come up with one) (: |

Mine are named "my Taylor" and "my Ovation".
The only one that gives me trouble is the one that camed pre-named: "my Lucille" doesn't sound quite right, and "Epiphone" is too much of a mouthful. But I don't want to call it just "Lucille", since that sounds like too much of an affectation.
So, for the moment, its just "my electric". |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Saying, "my Ovation" when there's a bunch of them sitting in front of you doesn't identify much. The 87 is "Rachel's guitar", the 1537 is "Megan's guitar" (although she has never really called it that. The Ultra GS is "my electric" since I only have one electric. The 12 string is "the 12 string" and the Ute is "the Ute" although I could also call it "my Adamas" since I only have one of those. For some reason, I refer to the model numbers more than the names, probably because we do that so much on this board. |

Location: Wheeling, WV | here's an idea for some of you multiple guitar case labelers. for years, i've stenciled my name and phone number on the bottom of my guitar cases, as well as speaker cabs., amplifiers, PA gear, racks, etc.... a model # could be easily added. i use gold spray paint for cases with brass hardware, and brown O case, and silver paint for cases with chrome hardware. it looks nice, makes your case easily identifyable in a room full of guitars, and could possibly bring back a lost or stolen piece. lately, i've been thinking about applying a coat of clear polyurethane over the paint, to make it more difficult to remove. if anyone wants to do this, look me up, i have some good tips to speed up the job and make it come out with neat clean letters / numbers. |

good advice on the stencil and paint...i may just have to do something likle taht....jason |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | For marking my cases I use the new Sharpie Silver permanent marker. As long as you don't have a bunch of armorall on the case before you use it, the marker writes easily on the dark case and stays. Of course ALL paint and marker comes off easily with a little acetone, so there's really no such thing as "permanent" with paint or markers. Only carving is permanent. |
