Location: Wheeling, WV | OK, i have all the bases covered with steel strings, nylon strings, electric solids, etc., but I think my next axe may be another O, either an Adamas, or CA. These days, i'm playing mostly fingerstyle, but I tend to like narrow necks, and play alot of my classical tunes on steel string slim necks, (1 11/16" - slim fingers). I've been wanting an O classical, but i'm leaning toward an Adamas, as something different from my fleet. I want electronics, but I'm primarily looking for acoustic sound, playing mostly unplugged right now. How does the Adamas sound acoustically for fingerstyle, as well as strumming? I like older, used instruments. If my budget is 5 to 6 hundred, can I get a nice Adamas, or should i look for classical? What is the price difference for older wood Adamas compared to composite top? Any input or thoughts from you experienced guys would be greatly appreciated. I'm generally used to playing my 70's O Legend, and small body Martin mahogany. Thx,

Location: ranson,wva | the adamas is a cannon plain and simple. ive got 15 different guitars...7 ovations and a few others. since i bought my adamas in january all the others have been hanging on the wall. i play some fingerstlye and rythm. on my adamas....
i dont realy think you will find a used adamas in your price range. when you say wood top adamas do you mean elite??
id seriously go with a classical stlye ovation....just one mans opinion....jason |

Location: Australia | "1580" - if you get an Adamas you won't be dissapointed.
Most of us here prefer the older style texture top models. They're very versatile guitars. Big booming tone for heavy strumming, shimmering top end for fingerstyle and everything in between.
Apart from the stock models,there's now an Adamas custom shop so "dream away".

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I like the thread 1580. I have similar feelings after hearing all the good things about Adamas guitars. (But it'll be a while.)
I saw this one in the members gallery...
...and I reckon I could live with one of these.
How would one of these (I believe its an Adamas II) sound compared to the alleged holey grail of plastic backs, the 47RI (which I hate the look of)
(Yes, I know I spelt 'holey' wrong, but it's appropriate for an Adamas or an Elite, don't you think?) |

Location: Athens, GA & Gnashville | Not to be so negative for starters, but $5-600 won't get you anything, even used, in the Adamas department. This is just from my experience. Drunken miracles due happen on Ebay once in a blue moon.
Your best bet is finding a used 1537 that has a little wear and tear on it. Then save a little more money and have the factory work its magic on it. My 1537 is the loudest, sweetest-sounding acoustic/electric guitar I own.
BTW, a 1537 is a discontinued wood top Adamas-style Ovation. Go to Tupperware's gallery to get the skinny.
Sorry, but you may have to go to the $750 range to get one these to recondition.
This is JMO, of course. And my accountant will tell you I'm hardly ever right! |

Location: Wheeling, WV | Thanks for the info., guys. That gives me a pretty good idea.....could be my next project. They really are beautiful, and i'm anxious to sit down and play one for a while. I'm still working on getting a copy of the History of Ovation book, so i can get up on the different model numbers, etc. If anyone has a good used copy, let me know..........Thx JP |
