They should have had a prototype at NAMM and let Temp demo it at Woodies G-Band booth...that would have gotten a lot of discussion.

And, letting Temp take it home would have been fair, especially for the great PR over the last two years with the Viper.

Dave's elation and I was able to pull up the web site that posts a Teaser but won't open until May 1, 2007.

I also received the "What guitar?" responses from those that will not be named.

Great suspense builder! The Winner is that they have launched a debut and continue to innovate.

Did I get out of that one yet?

I bet it's a Hamer and not an Ovation. Why would Ovation move into Hamer's territory? Who knows?

My investigation came up with these:

Dean "Flying V" VXT

Vauxhall VXT spider roadster

I don't think either is what they're talking about.

you'd think they'd have researched a name that another guitar didn't already have though?

What's the big deal? I can tell you all what the VXT is: another new Ovation product that will never be available to us leftys, just like the LX package, contour bowl and OP-Pro preamp.

Jeff, I feel for you about the lefty thing (even tho I ain't lefty). If I was you, I'd buy more Martins. Ovation has a difficult time adapting their products to lefties because of the plastic back and obviously the lefty market is not big enough for them to worry about. So why should you continue to support a company that can't support you?

I'm curious tho (and too lazy to look it up), why can't an OP-Pro be put in a lefty Ovation? You just cut the appropriate sized hole for the can and in it goes. Am I over simplifying it?

As far as the name VXT, I'm "guessing" that it stands for Viper XT. I don't know anything about the guitar except that it looks black and glossy. That's a good start. The myspace photo looks very "hamer-like". I am hoping that upstairs and downstairs are finally working together to drive T5 sales to roughly zero.

Hear here! Martin, Collings, Santa Cruz, and a bunch of boutique acoustic shops would be glad to make you a lefty guitar. Wood boxes (non-cut away) just have to change the bridge. And they have jigs for left hand cutaways already made.

The cost is going to be more than the standard O's, but really, they are going to have tone to die for.

The attraction O's have for me is the value. If i could afford to have a half a dozen Santa Cruz, a couple of Collings, and a Goodall or a Lowden or two in the stable i doubt i'd even pick up an O. Just the way it is for me.

Flame suit on.

So what happens if you're left handed but want to play piano? Tough, there's no such thing as a left-handed piano, you just have to learn to play it right handed.

GH1, the #47 RI sounds as good as any Martin I have played (different but just as good). Same goes for some of the other high end gits.

And if your looking for great sound AND value, check out that Tak EF75J with the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Sweet deal and killer sound!

Stephen:

Well, i'm sure your right. But it's not like i can drop into one of the dozens of music stores here and pick it up and play it. Like i can with any of the names i mentioned, plus a bunch more boutique acoustics.

That kind of money is just a bit hard for me to put down on faith, or your word. Even with the high esteem i have for you and your honor.

(Besides, as i said in another thread -- too much bling for me on that beast. I like my guitars simple; to let the design do the talking, not the crap embedded in it.)

Of course, you could always ship yours out here to me for a while. You've got my address :)

Cheers!

I beleive the I overheard a conversation on the '05 tour where it was pointed out that it costs $175,000 to do what it takes to produce a given bowl. I guess when they think they can make that kind of money back by selling left-handed LXs, they'll do it. Or maybe you lefty's in the club can pool your $ and pay for the investment. Everyone would have to agree on which bowl: shallow, mid, deep, deep non-cutaway, contour...

Just some thoughts. I feel bad for the leftys, too. John <>{

Looks to me like a viper upgrade. Maybe good for home studio work. OK, so know I have to go out and try the ultra and wait for the vxt.

Also, that 175k number makes me wonder, after how many guitars do they make up the r and d, and start a profit. I guess based on pricing, they need to make and sell 100 of whatever before a profit with 1750 price.

Nice website Al.

I appreciate the kinds words of sympathy for us left-out-in-the-cold southpaws. My post was meant to be tongue in cheek, but that's not to say that the frustration isn't genuine. However, I do understand the logistics involved are more difficult for Ovation to cater to the lefty market than the wood box makers. On the other hand, since they obviously already have the mold for a lefty mid-depth bowl, would it really be that difficult to adapt it to the LX design?

Tuppy suggested I should buy more Martins. I'm with you in theory, Tup, but the truth is, I really don't need any more Martins. The two I've got are awesome and meet virtually all my acoustic needs. My one and only Ovation is pretty much relegated strictly to live gigs because, IMHO, there's still no better sounding acoustic/electric than an Ovation.

It's interesting (to me) that just about 18 months ago, I had something like 16 guitars, 11 of which were Ovations. If you'da told me back then that a day would come when I'd only have one O in my stable, I'da thought you were insane... Ahh, the mighty winds of change.
