I use to have a Bromberg T-shirt back in the '70s that I wore while in college. It had a line drawing of him on the front.

I got constantly asked if the drawing on my T-shirt was of me  .

Not sure how we both look now but I guess at one time there was a resemblance.

WOW....hadn't thought about David Bromberg in 20-25 years. Glad to hear he is still out and about and performing.

Promoting his first album in 30 years.

I just saw him this past Fall at B.B. King's in Manhattan. He played a GREAT version (as he did just now, on the radio) of Dylan's "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" . . .

From AMG:
"There is no denying that Bromberg, who basically gave up the road and the studio at the dawn of the '90s in order to become a violin maker, possesses an innate love for the roots Americana that populates his comeback album. And on its own merits, it's a satisfying enough listenhe sounds perfectly comfortable within the familiar domain of this material."

What time is the broadcast supposed to be?
That link says he's on the show but doesn't really give a time.

He did leave the biz to make 'em, but I'd read that he made a course-correction and became a dealer of fine violins, instead . . .

. . . still, I 'spect he cranks out one or two outta' the back room, every now and again . . .

A half-hour ago.

He came on RIGHT after I made the initial post.
sorry.
(I posted it as soon as I'd heard)

If y'do some research, I believe WNYC PodCasts all of their programs . . .

I stand corrected.

Bromberg has an in-shop luthier (violin maker). Bromberg does not actually make them.

I have the album with that line drawing on it! It's a great album i still listen to.

Thanks Cliff for the link -- i caught the show. And really liked David's playing. Back to the solo stuff like on the aforementioned album. Lot's of his music with a band that followed i really didn't care for.

Now we need JJ Cale to show up and two of my favorite players/songwriters will be back in production. (and no that stint with Eric Clapton doesn't count :) )

What Dave played on the show was heavy country blues influenced.

That brings back some old, but very vague memories. I don't think I could call it a flashback, because it's not clear enough.

I remember him from back then and he was pretty good and influential. I saw him at the National Guitar Workshop summer sessions a couple of years ago and I had to question by basis for good memories. Maybe it was just good drugs......

He definitely ain't what he used to be . . .

He used an analogy of softball:

Y'go to a picnic, and there's a softball bat, ball & glove there.
Y'pick 'em up and play a little ball.
When you're done, y'don't play again . . . till somebody else has a picnic . . .

He did that for about 20 years - where he hardly even TOUCHED a guitar. I think he was concentrating on the violin business . . . and raising a family.

He was a staple at Stockton when I was there 20 years ago. Bromberg, Warren Zevon, The Hooters, Taj Mahal, Fleck, were always regulars doing great shows...

I was thinking about you earlier cliffie - we just had Tiger Prawns followed by a Parmesan and coriander omelette with potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers and porcini mushrooms slow roasted in olive oil and a beautiful mix of herbs (recipe on request) and it crossed my mind that the carnivores who inhabit the OFC would have me marked down as a pinko liberal (by your standards I'm a communist) when I thought of you. The wines were to die for.
And I still count Mr Garcia as one of my most enduring musical influences. Seeing The Dead at Wembley in the very early seventies was one of the great nights of my life.
See you in CT.

You starve a young dog for three days to clean-out it's system. Then you feed it a whole bunch of rice and vegetables. Wait four hours, then visit the dog with a ball-peen hammer. Then you wrap it in wet burlap, and bake it in a pit.
Voila! Baked Stuffed Dog. [Phillipine-style]

True Story:
While running about on the island of Bintan (Indonesia), we got caught-up in a conversation with our driver, which eventually lead to his declaring his preference for "Black dog" over "Brown dog" and he wasn't talkin' as a pet...

At a Christian Ministry outdoor tent revival, we had a white family that had returned from eight years of living/witnessing in the back-islands of the Philippines. Their eight-year-old daughter (who spoke English and Tagalog equally well) was at the Children's table at dinner. Bandit the Puppy was mooching at the table, and the little girl was vehemently telling the dog to get away...
"What's the matter, you don't like dogs?" the other kids asked.
"Oh, I love dog! But dog belongs ON the table, not under it."
"You EAT dogs? Eeew!"
"No, no, Dog is good! We have dog every Sunday if we can. It is a delicacy."

That little girl told me that recipe. (for Real!)

as an esl teacher I taught adults and kids from many different countries. One day a couple of Vietnamese kids came up to me puzzled. apparently they were seving hot dogs in the cafetorium (no I did not make that word up someone else did) Mr. Pepiak, the hot dog is the meat of the dog? Oh yes I told them. We eat dog in my country they explained. I then told them I was kidding and it was the meat of the pig. (this actually happened to me but sometimes you hear this story told as a joke and the punch line is "in my country we don't eat that part of the dog")

That explains the those vietnamese guys I met that had a saigon/bayone accent.

Cafetorium is one of the great american inventions. The Spork is another good one. At my school we used sporks in the cafetorium.

Al, we have to trade war stories sometime. Fresh out of college I taught high school math for 1 year before I realized it was a pond scum sucking job. So I went into marketing instead.
