I contacted Ovation about replacing the pre-amp on my Elite Standard to a newer one, preferably with a built in tuner. My Elite has the OP-24 preamp, which sounds fine to me but I would like to have a built in tuner. Ovation said they can do it at the factory, so considering shipping costs I am now thinking it is not worth it. Anyone else replace pre-amps on their Ovations? If so, is it worth it?

thanks

if you want the built in tuner then it is worth it. otherwise buy another guitar and have a spare.

See if they have any more Op-24+C's in the service dept. Same as yours with a tuner. You ought to be able to do the work yourself with a little coaching from folks here. John or Kim might even talk you through it on a phone call or 2.

I like the philosophy. That just makes good sense :)

If all you want is the benefit of a tuner, just buy a tuner. If you're doing live (plugged in) work, the boss chromatic tuner pedal $90. works well as a pass through between your guitar and amp/board. Dave

Dont get me wrong, I like having a reason to buy another guitar, any idea how much it will cost to replace the pre-amp? Ovation's email says it has to be done in the factory.

BTW, I have 3 tuners, 2 that attach to the guitar, one is the intellitouch PT1. great tuner but a bit of an appendage on the Elite. A friend had a Martin with built in tuner, I thought the built in was more accurate and it was nice to just look down and tune away. (I like open tunings, so at times I change tunings often)

i think the onboard tuners that are in the pres are seiko but i could be wrong....i verry rarely play plugged in and my ovations are direct out of have fet pre's so i cant give a opinion on the onboard tunners....ive got a couple of clip on's and a nice strobe stomp box tuner.......just my 2 cents worth...jason

I was gonna say to get a clip-on, or an inline plug-in. I'm thinkin' that a plug-in is affected by the EQ setting, maybe. The clip-on may be more true.

But you REALLY want a built-in, so your choices a an OP-24+C, or a whole new guitar! That new Ultra looks nice... (that way we can get a true review)
