Location: Athens, GA & Gnashville | Do you guys that get this done have it done at your local luthier? I noticed from checking around the web that there are different kinds of bone to be had for this project.
Is one bone better than another? |

Location: Omaha, NE | This is one of those questions that won't ever be answered. Too religous.
Go to www.guitarsaddles.com and look around. There are tons of choices: Bone (which in reality means Chinese cow bones), ivory, fossilized walrus ivory, Tusq, etc, etc, etc, etc.
I put an ivory saddle on my Taylor last year. No particular reason...just thought I'd do it. Can't say I can hear any difference. But it does look nice.
Some guys claim they can hear the difference. I have my doubts. If anything, they are probably hearing the difference between a carefully hand fit saddle and one pulled from the parts bin at the factory. But maybe I'm wrong. Who knows.
This is certainly a DIY operation. Nothing too it. The absolute worst thing that could happen to you is that you spoil your new saddle. You aren't going to hurt your guitar. |

| If signal transfer is the objective, then 'fossilized' might actually be the best natural material. Someone somewhere has probably done acoustic tests for signal transfer. Be interesting to see the results.. |
