Location: NJ | I've decided to forego the moderately annoying instruments like the ukelele and even the banjo, and go completely to the DarkSide.
Yes, Ladies & Gentlemen, I've joined that UnHoly Legion of players of an instrument so absolutely VILE, so UnNatural, . . . it could very well be the very Instrument of Satan himself.
Yes, . . . I'm referring to (shudddder) . . . the Accordian!!!
(actually, the Concertina).
This past Saturday was my 51st (I share a birthday with George Harrison), and Jeanette decided that the cats were getting a bit too docile and needed something to bring them to the absolute brink of madness, and surprised me with a 20-button Anglo Concertina.
The thing's pretty cool!!
It's like having a pair of big harmonicas, and playing them simultaneously . . .
I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing with it, but I've been researching them on the Internet, and hope to be able to wrestle the Beast into producing something that even reMOTEly resembles "music" before the ever-expanding throng of neighbors wielding torches and farm implements storm the Keep . . .
A big ThankYou!!! to Uncle Al at LostArt Vintage for severely endangering his musical instrument reputation by procuring this for Jeanette to surprise the sh!t outta' me!!! ThanksAgain,Al!!
It even came with a really sturdy RoadCase.
(tho I suspect that it's NOT for protecting it during travel, but is a safe place to keep people from smashing the sh!t out of it when I'm not looking . . .)
Hours and Hours of absolutely anNOYing Fun!!! . . . |

May I suggest that you learn some version of Amazing Grace so that when you say the show is over "THE SHOW IS OVER FOLKS! NO MORE COWBELL!"
Sounds like an interesting flavor to try. |

Location: big island | no wonder we haven't heard from you in a couple days, cliff. congratulations on your 51st! i'll be confronting mine in september.
don't think i'll be ready for an accordion until my 52nd, though. i've always thought they would be cool to play.
i gotta get a UTE first. perhaps this year.
hey...anything that produces music is worth pursuing and i've never heard an evil sounding accordion (of course, i haven't heard you playing one either!) perhaps you will have an accordion offering on the next member's cd. |

After the first couple of sentences, I pictured you with bagpipes. I'm still trying to get the image of the kilts out of my mind. |

(scary).
Mine's a little, Chinese-made "beginner's" model, but there are real works of ART out there!!!
(like any other instrument, I guess . . .)
It just comes down to something ELSE that I won't have "time" for . . . .
Bagpipes'll be "next", Mark.
Oh, btw:

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'd listen to the bagpipes if you just promise not to wear the kilt. Bagpipes playing Amazing Grace are actually quite musical. I'll even put up with an occasional banjo tune.
I draw the line at rap. |

But I was listening to some Blues on NPR, and this dude was jammin-out on the squeeze-box!
So I have no taste... |

Don't forget to trim those chest hairs and some of those short and curlies so that you don't get them caught in your new toy. Otherwise your cats will have some competition when it comes to reaching those high notes. :p  :D |

It's not one of those big ol' Jimmy Sturr (Al knows who that is) units.
It's a Concertina:

I was thinking the chinese new year thing too ...
But then I thought:
Mama's got a squeeze box she wears on her chest,
and when Daddy comes home, he never gets no rest.
'Cause she's playin' all night,
And the music's alright.
Mama's got a squeeze box,
Daddy never sleeps at night.
Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep.
There's no escape from the music
In the whole damn street.
'Cause she's playin' all night,
And the music's all right.
Mama's got a squeeze box,
Daddy never sleeps at night.
She goes in and out and in and out
and in and out and in and out.
'Cause she's playin' all night,
And the music's all right.
Mama's got a squeeze box,
Daddy never sleeps at night.
She goes, squeeze me, come on and squeeze me
Come on and tease me like you do
I'm so in love with you
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night
She goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night.
I put this in the keyboard camp, and keyboard players have nice toys. |

Years back, some friends and I hung-out at Savoy Music Shop with Marc Savoy, Annie his wife and Michael Doucet and crew for Mardi Gras in Eunice, LA. Played music, danced. Great time and great accordion music. Marc's shop is way fusking cool.
It was there my friend Stephanie coined the term, 'The Cajun Clutch," after a few 'Two Steps' with an ancient old local named, Huey

The wife and I spent four days in the French Quarter years ago and there wasn't a minute that wasn't memorable. Great town. |

It would mean going back to back to SouthBeach, sparking up another Cohiba and just hanging around between the BoulevardHotel and the topless beach until the angle of the light was . . . juuuust right . . .
THAT would suck! |
