Location: south east Michigan | I know there are many members out there who have good reasons for missing the tour. Maybe it's financial, or maybe you live in some place crazy like say... Tazmania. But this is for all you fence sitters out there.
So...here are some reasons to "be there".
1) The tour takes place a couple weeks after they unvail the VXT guitar. Whatever it turns out to be, I'm sure there will some there to get our hands on. You may not see this guitar in your local store for months.
2) I've been on a few "Factory Tours". They run you through like cattle. You gotta stay between the yellow lines. Ya can't ask any detailed questions. You know what I mean. What Ovation does for us that day goes way beyond the defination of "factory tour". Who else do you think would let you hang around their engineering and design room? Within arm's reach you have some of the most historical Ovations ever made as well as a taste of what is to come. The design staff will answer any question you might have. And they'll even use small words if you ask real nice.
And the walk through the factory is more of a concentrated class in luthiery than a mere "tour".
Then there is the catered jam session they host. More on that later.
3) The hotel lobby is a happening place almost any time of the day. You can enjoy your complimentary strawberry waffle w/whipped cream breakfast to the distictive sounds of various roundbacks.
During the evening, it's a veritable orgy of music and OFC fellowship. Well... maybe "orgy" is not the right word to use, but you know what I mean.
4) You will never have a better opportunity to try out every vintage and model Ovation ever made. Just ask. Someone there will have the guitar you want to test drive.
5) You know how much fun we have with just the typewritten word. In person, it's 5 times the fun. After you meet someone face to face their posts on the board will always take on the characteristics that you can't pick up with a computer screen. Some members are just what you expect them to be and a few others are quite a surprise.
That's enough for a start. If any other tour veterans want to chime in, feel free.
Oh ... I forgot to describe the catered Jam. I'll let someone else do it. |

If EVER!!!
How many of you guys have never seen/played a chambered-bodied Viper?? . . . or an ADAMAS for that matter???
It appears that there will be a lot of people who have been "on the fence" for years, that are coming.
THAT in turn, is causing a lot of Repeat Offenders (who were "on the fence" about coming AGAIN, this time) t'do what's gotta' be done to make it to meet/greet the Noobs . . .
You SHOULD Be There!!! |

Location: closely held secret | Brad is right on in all cases. Well, except number three. Yes the waffles are great. No, Randy, they don't really cater, you have to make your own waffle. They provide the batter and the iron. Anyway, it's the last part of number three. The 'O' word. Ok, the other 'O' word. Just do yourself a favor and get some white out and take that right off the screen.
Number four, that's a cool one. The first time I went I didn't even take a guitar, and got to play Ovations I didn't even know existed. (Oh, whoever owned that 1688, the one with the ding... well, the one that had the ding after '05, well... you know. Sorry.)
Oh, and number five? Well... you know how sometimes you really look forward to something, like going somewhere or meeting someone, and it turns out to be nothing like what you expected? Like, maybe you were expecting "cool", and it turned out to be "if I can't get away from this moron in 30 seconds I swear I'm going to throw myself in the fireplace"? Or, "This person seems so intelligent when he types, yet when he talks I can't understand a word he says!".
Yeah. Cool fun! As Cliff said, You SHOULD Be There!!!
So be there. Or... you won't. |

They start to think the same thoughts.

Another gaurantee of quality is that the only OFC'ers that will show are those industrious enough to at least scrounge gas money! The real slackers stay home. |

Come on over this way and we can make plans for you to cross the border here at the ferry in Algonac. Or maybe in the dead of night we can sneak across in and 18', purple metal-flake finish bass boat.

I was thinking that none of you hoity-toity collectors would be interested in playing my Balladeer Special or $100 uke, so I am considering bringing the Demon Deacon since it's an oddity (Sam says it has the thinnest neck of any Ovation he's ever seen), and grabbing what's handy for playing. Is that crossing any lines? |

kazoo - got one (actually, it's an Ian Anderson "Rubbing Elbows" autographed model).
juice harp - actually's it's "Jew's Harp" (or to be pc, a "Jaw Harp") - got one.
recorder - got one (an alto)
along with two "C" concert flutes (one's mine, one' Jeanette's), a bamboo Chinese flute (requires a piece of dampened rice paper to act as a "reed"), various pennywhistles, sundry wooden/pottery/bamboo flutes, the ever-popular flutophone(remember those??) and various bongoes, darbukas, & hand percussion (BigThanks to MasterTempleman for the all-wood bongo addition last Sept.).
Whatever'll make noise . . . . .
(Temp . . . got any leads on a tamboura?? . . . :-) |

Ukes? Sure, bring em! If it's not raining we can get a cricket game going on the lawn, we'll need bats!

I second that. Some of the "common" instruments were the ones that were special to several members. It was a pleasure to rotate though the offerings. Didn't play my own very often.
My favorite one was an unfinished instrument that would have been passed over if looks were the main factor. |

This year... Probably just the UTE and the UKE.
I got a real kick watching Paul T put my Breadwinner through its paces. It might even make the Wabbit's DVD production.

Here's your chance to directly address the guys in charge.
I was able to address my obsessive fetish with the old school foil lables. Not that it did any good.... but they politely listened.
And it's always fun to watch Moody get up and exclaim to the head honchos that they sell their
guitars way "to cheap". Someone needs to keep an eye on him this year. |
