I still like these on certain guitars. The easy tension is cool, too.

I wonder why they quit using them as standard equipment on the O guitars? (Except for the fact that they aren't coated)

that is the reason.
they feel that o's and a's often suffer from dead string syndrome in the stores.

btw I was in GC and Ash yesterday. GC same old GC BS everything on sale except what I want.

Ash looked like it was ready to close, dingy dirty, stuff all over the place not very well put together and if you wanted something aside from samson you had to look a long way to get it. BUT they had a GREAT Ovation display in fact the acoustic room and band instrument room were the best looking and run in the whole store IMHO

Al - I agree. The acoustic room at Ash is a much friendlier, cleaner and WAY less crowded place than GC. As soon as you walk in, the line-up of O's is right there. There are places to sit down and play - actual couches! I spent about an hour talking to the repair guy there as well... I ended up with a free 12-string nut and a few lenghts of fret-wire - without asking, mind you. I had the packs of fretwire in my hand and the guy told me to put them away and gave me some from his stock. Can't beat that!

BTW - GC still has the 1851 - they just moved it higher up into the rafters and pretty much hidden in a corner. The strings look like they have never been changed. They did however drop the price to $1000 for $1499 (if I recall correctly).

Last I know it was D'Addario. I doubt that would change.

Al - when you walk into the acoustic room it's behind the door above where they have all of the cases stacked - there's no lighting there and you definitely need a ladder to get to it.
