With all of the talent (both real and imagined) represented here on the OFC, I would encourage those of you who haven’t done so yet, to find a local Convalescent Home, talk to the Activities Director and set up a recurring time to play for the Dear Folks who are languishing there.
You don’t have to be good, you only have to be willing to give of yourself and your talent in order to brighten the day for someone else.
I play with my Church group “Elder Care Music Ministry” and our best “gig” is the monthly (1st Saturday each month) Rest Home gig. It really affected me last time (Feb 3rd.).
We were playing and I realized the one of the “regulars”, a Resident who never missed our performance, wasn’t there. I was told later that she had died the week before. It hit me then that our music that made her smile was the last time she had been happy before she died.
Please, go out and help them forget where they are living and why. Be a blessing!
Please try to keep this “on topic”……
Ok, back to your regular chaotic existence. :p
Cheers! |

A chicken in a vacuum cleaner. How about tying two cats tails together  talk about deliverance.

Location: Boise, Idaho | I actually volunteered, which was a big step for me, since I rarely play or sing in public (meaning if anyone else is around). My neice is an activities director at a nursing home, but she is having real trouble getting the people who hired her to let her do anything. She is not getting any response from the residents, either, so she is talking about quitting.
Anyway, that didn't sound to promising, but if no one shows up, I can just play the same way I do by myself down in my basement.
(That didn't sound right, so I'll add that I should probably put on some pants if I play at the nursing home.) |

One thing we also do is "HallCrawl"...that is, after the "show" some of the members walk through the halls and play/sing for the folks who couldn't make it to the show.
Remember that many of the folks will need special care just to get them to functions... care that the Nurses might not be able to give at that time.... so don't be discouraged if there are only a few at your "gig".
Do the HallCrawll afterwords and get the rest! |

I like doing the hall thing. I remember an elderly lady dancing in the hall while I was playing one time at Baptist Hospital. I jokingly mentioned that Baptists aren't keen on dancing. She replied,"Honey I'm a Methodist and we dance." |

No need to, as Tim's rolled it into a rather lucrative MedicAid scam . . .
Keep it up, Timster ;-) |

There's just so much talent on this board.
If only some of it was musical. |
